good value

the only thing I would improve is the cost basis determination for sale of stocks held long term. for a Drip long term stock you have to have the dates for earnings and the cost basis to figure the cap gains on the stock. it would be helpful to be able to go back and forth in the downloaded worksheet to see how many quarters a stock was held to figure the dates and the cost for each micro transaction.
What's great about it: fast and mostly painless
What's not so great: cost basis

2013 filing
on March 9, 2014

You wanted my user name and password. I don;t know them and when I tried to bring up the help screen nothing happened. If I get a state refund next year, I will mail the return and avoid your handling charge.
A really bad mark.
What's great about it: Program itself was very clear and easy
What's not so great: filing by credit card
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Easy to use. Asks all the questions to succeed in the process. Have used TT for many years & I'm always pleased. Not necessarily with the refund, but with the process.

I have used Turbo tax for many years to file my taxes and have always been more than pleased. I did use another named software once because it was a bit cheaper, but you get what you pay for!
What's great about it: step by step intuit is wonderful
What's not so great: no assistance on state IT SBD

Access to less common forms
on March 9, 2014
Posted by: DavidJD
In each of the various sections for making entries, the customer should be informed that additional less common forms are available via "search topics" menu. In my case, the "Income" and "Schedule A, Miscellaneous Deduction" sections needed entries that were not solicited during my first pass through the program.
What's great about it: Form 1041, K-1 was available to allow me to enter beneficiary information
What's not so great: It was not obvious that less common forms like the K-1 were available.

2013 return
on March 9, 2014

Takes too long to edit and review as the software asks me the same questions every time, can't skip them. Don't like being asked if I want audit defense mulitiple times as an example. I do like the ease of having the data entered from the previous year. I don't like being asked if my dependents own a house, have kids, etc. Can we skip some of these questions that don't apply to very many people?
What's great about it: Consistent year to year
What's not so great: too long to get to the right places to enter some data (income, deductions)
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Feds and 1 state OK, 2 states clash
on March 9, 2014

This is the first year that I've tried 2 states together with the Federal, rather than one through TurboTax and the second state by hand. What a mess! I couldn't get the forms to jib and they changed each other's entries.
What's great about it: It was great until I added a second state, then disaster
What's not so great: NJ return messed up NY return
