Another Good Year

Almost everything went well this year although my tax situation was as complex as last year. I use the Deluxe version and it has everything I need to report my investments and K1.
Just a few points of improvement:
1. The inputs for form 1116 Foreign tax credit are very poor and confusing. Apparently I didn't need to file the form to get the credit because my foreign taxes are less than $300 but the software did not tell me that and walked me through creating forms I didn't need and messed up my credit besides.
2. The entires for K1 are just barely adequate. There are a lot of details such as carryovers of credit that are not explained and I do not know what to do with this information.
3, Apparently you can no longer change any of the forms by hand if you want to file electronically, but the software does not tell you that. Any entries into forms use overrides which creates lots of errors. The software should do a better job of taking you to the right entry form if overrides are not allowed.

Very good - much quicker and easier than manually

The initial instructions need to be clearer as far as making the selection between "on line" and "desk top". Also TT pushes the Premier level which is a little misleading because the Deluxe worked fine for me even with the stock transactions. More detail on what is doable with Deluxe vs. Premier would be helpful.
When entering data for dividends TT should allow me to designate "type in data myself" at the start of the process and the option should then apply to the entire section without me having to re-answer the question.
It would streamline the process to allow me to skip the itemized deduction questions and choose the standard deduction option. Even though I own a home and pay re taxes, I have not had enough deductions to itemize for several years.
Overall, very pleased with the product and will be back next year.
What's great about it: Thorough and easily understood instructions
What's not so great: Getting on the right track initially a little confusing

I have used this product since 1992. I highly recommend this product. When you combine this with using Quicken, it makes the tax preparation process much more efficient.
What's great about it: Very easy to use with a good price.

I had to go back to my old computer to view my state tax payments from last year, that computer is almost history
What's great about it: imports data
What's not so great: transfered old returns to new computer, but can't view them without the old program I guess

I have been using Turbo Tax for the last 5 or 6 years and am very pleased with how easy it was to follow.

I am really amazed how quickly I can complete my Federal and State income tax reports. TurboTax eliminates a lot of the tedious stuff when inputting your information upon the second a third year of using it. It also helps in my understanding of the different types of deductions.
What's great about it: Fast and easy
What's not so great: Kind of expensive to purchase software
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)
