Turbo tax makes doing taxes yourself very easy. Haven't paid to have taxes filed for years now. Everything is very easy to follow and you just have to fill in the blanks. Have recommended to several friends who have had to pay several hundred dollars to have returns done. They were amazed at how simple it is! Great program

1. I rolled over an IRA for the first time in 2013, and was unable to effectuate a direct transfer. I received the funds and the next day handed them off to the new IRA manager. When it came time to enter the data from the 1099-R, I was unable to figure out how to tell TurboTax that it was a rollover. Fortunately, after posting my question on the blog, someone told me where to find the button downstream I needed to click.
2. This year I received a 1099-B. I was unable to find my financial institution on the automatic download list, so I got to go through the nutroll of hand-jamming all the information in myself. Fortunately, my wife was on hand to proofread my work. I won't reveal the name of my institution here, but if Intuit wants to know, I will inform them.
What's great about it: Almost everything worked fairly smoothly; Help blog was a big help this time
What's not so great: Two things could have been better

it still beats sitting in my Accountants office, and even i can make sense of the #s and how of keep track of the process. I like the fact that i can see first hand if i am making a mistake and how it impacts my bottom line of the return.
What's great about it: simple, even with a glitch

The only way to go

It would take me months to figure out how to prepare my return without this program. The IRS rules have become so convoluted that I gave up using pencil and paper years ago. Turbo Tax is the only way to go.
What's great about it: Turbo Tax requests all the information and then does the entire complicated math for me.
What's not so great: Treats me like a first-time user every year. Then I have to force it to Go to Forms every time I open the program.

Works well

The product works well, pulling from the previous year's desktop version results file to seed the new return. It shows you, in many categories, your last year's numbers versus the current years, and when it suggests you go through question and answer sessions to verify the current year's values.
I used the deluxe version. It did seem to have an issue with K-1's, duplicating both my imported (via TXF files) K-1's in some manner. I removed one, but didn't notice the other, and it turned out it just put some numbers into one K-1 and some into another K-1, so they weren't exactly duplicated.
Anyway, it makes a very complex process manageable, although still obscure. I'd be spending a lot more time on taxes without it. I consider automated tax prep to be one of the big three uses of the computer, along with word processing and email.
What's great about it: Allows for step by step questions or shortcut for faster use
What's not so great: has some issue with K1's
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I bought or sold investments

This program is quite simple to use. If you make a mistake it is either quickly corrected or asked further questions to clarify the situation. It seems that each year there are improvements in using the program. Would highly recommend this program to my family and friends without question.
