Indiana State form.....2 errors on 2 filings
on March 8, 2014
Posted by: wissler2
1st flaw: my husband and I file jointly, but in the Indiana software package this year, there was no reference to his Miltary Service deduction on IT-40, Schedule 2.
2nd flaw: on our daughter's IT-40, Schedule 5, her 2012 Indiana tax refund was, somehow, transferred to Line 3, Estimated tax. The state caught this error and recalculated her credits. When we went back to see if it was OUR error, there was no reference to any "Estimated tax paid" in the TT questions; therefore, we had no idea until the State flagged her form and made the correction. Ebbie/Darrell Crawford
What's great about it: just about everything except apparent software flaw
What's not so great: 2 software flaws in unrelated tax forms

8 years in a row with TurboTax

Easy to use, especially since our taxes aren't that complicated. Some of the wording/help files aren't that intuitive, but that may be just because a lot of the fancy stuff doesn't apply to our situation, so I don't know much about them.
What's great about it: Pretty easy to use.
What's not so great: Some questions were a little weird in the wording.

The only issue I have had over the years is that I do not need the estimated tax vouchers, I tell the program I don't wish for them to print, yet it always waste paper and ink by printing them.
What's great about it: Very thorough
What's not so great: Prints forms you don't need and didn't request.

Change Needed

I am a retired minister. Like many other retired clergy, part of my retirement pension is considered "housing Allowance" and thus non taxable. My 1099-R comes with box "2a Taxable amount" blank and box "2b Taxable amount not determined" checked. The TurboTax program instructs me to enter the data as it appears on my 1099-R, but the only way I can find to make TurboTax compute my taxes correctly is for me to enter the proper amount of my Housing Allowance in box 2a. TubodTax needs to provide an instruction for retired clergy to do that or it needs to crate a new screen for retired clergy to enter enter their housing allowance if it is not already reflected on their 1099-R. If that were corrected I would rate TurboTax with 5 stars.
What's great about it: Easy to use.
What's not so great: See below.
Pros: I bought or sold investments

I paid for this product. You ask too many times if I want your other products. You disrespect my time.
