Confused Filing
on March 5, 2014

Everything was fine until I got to the print and file by mail and it would say view and print or save as PDF and print. after selecting view and print, it showed what was to print but never printed. Had to go to File Menu and select print. This part was all messed up. It seemed like one of the updates forced you to select a Pin Number even if you were filing by mail. I was not happy with these items as I have been using Turbo Tax for what seems like 20 years and this has been the worst program.
What's great about it: Easy to follow for the most part
What's not so great: Updates seem to mess up program.

I used Turbotax last season for the first time and I loved it. I will continue to use Turbotax for the forseeable future until something better comes along which is highly doubtful. I love this program. Best way to file both returns by far.
What's great about it: Extremely easy to do, Program did everything
What's not so great: No complaints

It's just very intuitive and easy to use software. I knocked out federal and state in one afternoon.
What's great about it: Quick and detailed.
What's not so great: Could not pull previous tax years from HR Block Deluxe but it still didn't take long.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Sue's Review

Cons did not have enough room. Some categories did not have enough info, like the IRA category. Was not sure if I needed to enter my 2013 contribution if I have a retirement plan (401K). Not sure what the IRA info worksheet was supposed to have on it, if anything. What is contribution and conversion history referring to? Not sure what line 6, 8 and Line 23 on this worksheet mean. If I have an amount on lines 6,8 & 23 is this a problem?
What's great about it: once I got to where I needed to be it was easy following most of the instructions
What's not so great: needed more details about the IRA info. Not sure if I should enter my 2013 contribution or not. see below

Turbo Tax Means Confidence!
on March 5, 2014
Posted by: PI4ever
Have used Turbo Tax continuously since 1990 and wouldn't think of using anything else. The confidence that I have in the program is well founded. It is easy to use, takes you through everything, and has all the forms you would normally need. When I pressed the e-File button, it was done without anxiety and with the knowledge that Turbo Tax had me look at all aspects of my tax situation and helped me find the most deductions (right on down to figuring out the value of the donations of goods to Goodwill and the Salvation Army). Great program! I heartily recommend it!
What's great about it: Thorough, easy to use, great transfer of data from year to year, instills confidence that the filings are correct!
What's not so great: Federal, two states, and e-filings gets expensive but the pros overcome it.
Pros: I bought or sold investments

An Excellent Tool for Filing an Error Free Return
on March 5, 2014

A very user friendly program that takes the drudgery out of preparing annual tax returns whether they are simple or complex. Allows a "novice' tax preparer or "seasoned" preparer to immediately see the impact a given input item has on their taxes. Example: in a simple return you will see the impact of adding $!00 more to income and how much tax that may add etc. I usually use the previous years Turbo Tax for planning purposes before year end to evaluate the impact that additional IRA withdrawals will have on my tax liability.
What's great about it: relative ease of use and on going calculation of Tax Due/Tax Refund
What's not so great: Causes you to re-enter responses previously entered after editing

Make updating Charitable donations easier
on March 5, 2014
Posted by: Gloryb
My bookkeeping program (Quicken) presents me with an alphabetical list of organizations to whom I have made donations. TurboTax has a list as well of last year's organizations which received donations from me.
Why is the list on TurboTax NOT in alphabetical order? That would make it so much simpler to add or subtract organizations and to update those repeated from the previous year.
What's great about it: Reminds me to have valid addresses
What's not so great: Faiilure to alphabetize organizations
