I have used Turbo Tax to do my taxes for a number of years and I've never had any of my returns thrown back in my lap.
What's great about it: Most everything
What's not so great: Some of the wording was a little over my head

Almost perfect

The process of preparing taxes is much easier with Turbo Tax, especially since it shows me what I did last year so I can be sure I am not missing any category. It would be perfect for me except for a bug that prevented transmission without an update that did not exist. However, one quick look at the online answer forum and I got instructions that got my return transmitted in just a few minutes by restarting Turbo Tax.
What's great about it: Guided me through with ready reference to last year's return
What's not so great: Transmission bug

Great for Federal; Not Good for State Returns

I've used Turbotax since the early 1990s and it's gotten better every year. In the past, there have been problems with IRA conversions that were taken care of in the 2013 version (thanks!). All the problems I ran into involved the NJ return. I had to do many of my own calculations and there was no help provided by TurboTax. Even the user forum wasn't helpful - others were complaining of exactly the same issues which in my case involved use of the general rule in determining taxes on pensions. It took multiple readings of NJ tax code, plowing through federal actuarial tables, and even then, I'm not sure I got it right. Please, please fix this!!!!!! It drove me crazy! Also, on the state form, the only real way of moving forward is to go to the form itself. Given that TurboTax claims it reviews state forms, I'm not sure how you could if you don't have any way of assessing if they were done correctly (no step by step on several items).
What's great about it: Wonderful job on federal return
What's not so great: Terrible on NJ return

You can use this program without asking for help. It asked the questions that a tax person would ask and easy to follow.
What's great about it: fast download of last year and this year data.
