Finally Finished

I have used TurboTax for several years and have always been very happy with it. However this year we moved to a different state at mid year. Turbo Tax's handling of the partial year effects for the 2 states was far less that satisfactory. For instance, it asked for one state's portion of an item that was a result of several calculations, instead of asking for the portion of the originally entered data. So I had to figure the portion of the originally entered data and then repeat all of the calculations that could have easily been done by the software. Some additional programming effort on the partial year state forms would be a huge improvement.
What's great about it: Federal taxes were a snap.
What's not so great: Partial year for 2 states was less than satisfactory.

Easier than I thought it would be

Once I had all the hand entered stuff done, it went fairly quickly.
What's great about it: Seemed streamlined compared to last year
What's not so great: Very tedious hand entering all the 1099 info
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

It beats doing taxes by hand

I have been using Turbo Tax for many years now and used the company they purchase for several years before that. It is easy to use, but don't expect to get a long form done in an hour. Typical time for one return is about 3-4 hours walking through each screen. Second and third returns (I do my kids as well and they too must use the long form) can be done in 1-2 hours each. The more you do, the quicker it is. While I do not like doing taxes and hate paying them even more, if you must do them, use Turbo Tax. You know where you stand when you are done and it is a great feeling to know that you are not likely to be audited.
What's great about it: Easy to follow. Consistant year after year.
What's not so great: It still takes a long time to go through the process

Our first time with TurboTax

I didn't find this easy to use as i thought i would. Mostly because I've never filed on my own. I do plan to use TurboTax next year and save at least $300.00.
What's great about it: affordable, easy to file online
What's not so great: Not finding answers to my questions as easily as i would of liked.

Turbo Tax makes tax time an easy chore instead of a dreaded nightmare. Thanks for making it convenient and straight forward.
