2014 tax return

Once again, turbo tax made filing my 2014 taxes fast, easy and almost painless. I'll be using turbo tax next year and for years to come!

Good but needs Improvement

Needs clarification on spousal VA benefits used for care centers or assisted living. Apparently you don't need to report this income but that is not very clear in the program. Also the amount you can claim of the expenses payed to assisted living is not very clear or obvious - this slows things down a lot and I had to find a tax expert that would explain it to me. I looked at all the help turbo tax provides but it was not definitive at all.
What's great about it: Go at your own pace, cheaper than a professional tax preparer, e-file
What's not so great: Many things not very clear to the average person, Even though it is cheaper than a tax professional it is too costly

Very Helpful - could use more description

If you're taxes are fairly straight forward, W-2, 1099 forms, etc. TurboTax is great for making sure you've covered everything and all the numbers add up. If you have some long/short term gains/losses or think you might, you may want to consider using the Premier version. I also purchased the state and that had all the updates to the MN tax laws and walked me thru that without much problem. The one area where some more information would be helpful is in the property tax refund section. Seems a little out of place and may be missed by people who have not filled the property tax refund in the past.
Also, if you are self employed or have a unique tax situation, the software may not cover all your tax implications, for example religious income and parsonages.

What's great about it: Easy to use, guided instructions
What's not so great: Some items lacked enough description

I only made a few dollars more this year yet got almost 80.00 less in refund.....sum ting wong.

Been using it for years.

I've been using TurboTax for 10 years. Two features that I think were there in the past are now gone. I really would like to see my previous years taxes next to my current year at all times. Not just in certain areas. I also want to be able to go back to the exact screen I left off at if I need to look at another part of my return. I don't want to have to page through sections to find where I was when I left.
What's great about it: Guided step by step. Final review.
What's not so great: Couldn't display previous year's taxes side-by-side on all steps. Going back to where I left off was tricky.

Very Good with a Few Exceptions

As usual, TurboTax Deluxe fulfills my tax needs. I have been using this program for many years and have always been happy with it.
One of the most valuable features of the program has always been the importation of my past information and records.
My satisfaction has continued this year with two exceptions:
1. The program does not give you the choice to get the latest IRS updates when you start the program. This caused me to be confronted with messages requiring more information in certain categories after I had finished the return. When I finally found where to update it, the program no longer asked for my additional information which had already been entered.

2. Printing of the finished return was unduly confusing. When I was ready to print, the only choices I was presented with were: Save; Print Preview; and Cancel. I had to go to the print options before I could print the return.
All things considered I am still pleased with Turbo Tax.

What's not so great: Does not update latest changes when the program is started, unlike last year. Confusing final printing choices

Overall good

I had an issue where the program did not work right. It was not a tax issue, it was a software issue. Clicking the button took you to the wrong place. The only support I could find was the "Community" which is not the place to report a bug. It's for usage questions. I found numerous reports of this same bug on the Community from as long as two years ago, so obviously the Community is not the way to report a bug.
What's great about it: Keeps you from having to understand much about the tax codes
What's not so great: No direct technical support for a bug in the program

TurboTax takes the pain out of doing taxes

I have used TurboTax for a good number of years now, it truly takes the pain out of doing taxes, making this most onerous yearly task into something efficient, easy to understand, and bearable. I've gone through a number of changed situations, regarding employment, tuition for children, etc., and TurboTax makes it easy to prepare taxes even with new conditions. The best feature is seeing the refund or owed amount update as you go, and the orderly printing of forms.
What's great about it: I like how it imports previous year tax information, and provides side-by-side comparison of previous + current tax year
What's not so great: No major cons.
