The city taxes came up and I clicked on Detroit and everything vanished. I could not retrieve the part for city taxes so finally had to print form from internet to do my city taxes.
What's great about it: most of it
What's not so great: it screwed up on city taxes
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Worse and Worse

Each year the quality has been slipping, especially in terms of applying updates, noticing when updates are available and actually requiring full restarts before the update takes without notice. At times the Update notice is hidden behind the main window. Also even after error checking it still finds more errors at time of transmission? Frustrating.
What's great about it: At least I got it done
What's not so great: Ongoing update issues
Pros: I moved, I bought or sold investments

I filed 1040 fed and state. Lots of charities, dividends and cap. gains. Turbo Tax deluxe fit my needs. Everything went smooth. What would take me 24 hours by hand I did in about 5 hours. Only downside is they keep trying to sell you something. I'd rather pay more and not be bothered by the ads.
Overall good to excellent. I'm a very satisfied customer.
What's great about it: Easy to use. No Problems, everything worked.
What's not so great: To many ads.

Trusted Return

I have been using Turbo Tax since 2004. Because of this it makes it easier doing your returns as they import your previous years return. This saves time and allows you to compare and remind you of all items that need attention. I feel very confident when I push the button to file that Turbo Tax maximized my refund and the probability of errors & an audit are very low.
What's great about it: Covers all tax topics & walks you through all situations
What's not so great: Not Turbo tax's fault - IRS tax code is complicated
Pros: I bought or sold investments

There is an error on Ohio form for cities , instructions say exclude city CR 120-16-ir there is no way I can find to exclude, and if you say na it still says you are missing the form. I'm filing state by hand
What's great about it: federal seems to work and is well worth the cost
What's not so great: state return
Pros: I bought or sold investments

excellent product, suggested to all my friends who pay a professional for a simple return, even with a few schedules - its a waste to pay someone good money when you can do it yourself
What's great about it: Easy steps to follow
What's not so great: nothing

Second year using TT...good stuff. Keep up the good work
What's great about it: Max refund guarantee...i like how my w2 was auto imported
What's not so great: could provide info for how to get more money back next year (chaging withholdings for example)

Good tool for an unpleasant task

I have been using TurboTax for nearly 20 years, and am stuck with it because it has all the data I need, and I don't want to have to transfer it to some other piece of software. It has gotten considerably easier over the years, to the point where I can pretty much do it automatically, especially now that I am retired, and I no longer live in a foreign country. I like that it gives me the option of entering the data that I know that I need, and does not nag me about stuff that does not affect me.
There are still some bugs in the software, with forms that nag about being updated, even after all the data has been entered. In addition, the guidance for prople who have accounts outside the US is still quite poor, but this may be due to problems with the government guidance, and not with TT.
One important suggestion I would make is to make the calculator function work outside the program, so that it is possible to do a calculation while working on a hidden supporting list of items. I sometimes find that I have to calculate the entries in these tables, and I can't access the calculator while entering supporting data. Alternatively, it would be nice to be able to enter a formula on one of those lines, to show how the value was calculated (i.e., pro-rated deductions or charges).
I will continue to use this product, because it has all my data, and making a change would be too painful.
What's great about it: Relatively easy to use
What's not so great: Still has some bugs
Pros: I moved
