Like it Alot

I really like Turbo Tax, use it every year but it seems like the fees are getting more extensive. So I would like some of them not to be so much at the end of the day - or a clear cut way to use it on the following years taxes as a write off.
What's great about it: Very Simple and Easy to use
What's not so great: The fees
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

I am thrilled by how quickly I can get through my taxes using Turbo Tax, especially now that I have to file in 2 states, as well as Federal. And using Its Deductible really simplifies charitable deductions, by letting me keep track all year, rather than pulling it all together at year end. I wish TurboTax would also include an "alert" section of special circumstances where people can get tripped up on taxes, such as how an inheritance is treated, depending on its type. We were told inheritances weren't taxable under a certain amount, and were later penalized by the IRS for not reporting the inherited income because it was from an annuity. When you are working with TurboTax, you have no way of knowing that there are these exceptions. An alert section would give you a chance to pursue topics which especially relate to your particular circumstances so that you enter correct information into TurboTax.
What's great about it: Has cut my tax preparation time significantly!
What's not so great: You have no way of seeing how they made their determinations of what to do. You just assume they are correct.

Taxes for Dummies

I used to do my Federal and State returns manually. Dig up all of the forms, figure out the calculations, make copies, review them all again, and then hoped I'd gotten it all right. It was like a badge of honor. Then my mother in law, who is a tax preparer, gave me a copy of Turbo Tax. With easy importation of W2 and investment company information - as TT has many partners in this process - and the simple questions that guided me through the process, I now do in a matter of hours what would take days between starting and stopping to download more forms and the reviews. And with repeat use this year, TT imported info from previous year, too. It's the best money I ever spent as it takes the work and uncertainty out of the whole filing process. I'll be back!
What's great about it: ease of use (including installation); importation of W2 and investment info; e-File of Federal return
What's not so great: Are there any?

The headaches have been gone since filing with TurboTax, It's so complete and easy to use! I now file with confidence that my information is accurate, and the returns are sent in a timely manner!!!
