Fun to do

It is pretty easy and kind of fun to do your own taxes. Doesn't take too long. Turbo Tax walks you through everything that you need to do.
What's great about it: Pretty easys
What's not so great: Charges for e-filing by bank they use.

Very Reliable Tool

When going back through some topics the selection in response to some questions is gone and I have to reanswer the same questions before I can proceed. I would prefer that the previous selection be shown with the opputunit to change.
My state does not have a state income tax. I would like to be able to select that up front and then the state return is ignored form then on unless I change the upfornt reponse.

What's great about it: Good overall organization. Copies key info. from prior year return. Good explanations of different tax items.
What's not so great: Forced to go back through personal info. before you can selectivel correct or update items before finalizing the return.

The ease of use and reasonable product price make Turbo Tax a good purchase. It has earned a place on my shelf next to the Hutzler 571 banana slicer. Oh yeah, it's that good.

Faulty State Return

For three years now, TurboTax has failed to give me a good state return. It has taken me almost a year to straighten out the error made on 2012's state return. Very simply, the 1099-R that is the basis of my return clearly shows that state taxes were with held every month; however, when TT calculates my return, it totally ignores that data and calculates as though no taxes were with held. I override those places to get a good return; however, I am unable to e-file this year because I cannot get behind the software error to replace the override with correct data. It is easy enough to revert back to the prior data, which is an error. I guess I will use TT next year, and do the overrides again, and file by mail. Yes, in addition, TT ignores the $6000.00 military exemption. again, I cannot get back to the software error, and have to override the error. Bad -- and costly. I may test H&R Block to see if the same errors are done -- and e-file with them!

Despite the calculation that showed a refund, Turbo Tax would not electronically file until it had a form completed on "2013 Calculation of Estimated Personal Income Tax Underpayment Penalty" was completed and included.
What's great about it: Federal tax procedures excellent
What's not so great: New Mexico procedures fell short of excellence
