Another good year with Turbo Tax

K-1

Unfortunately, I don't understand enough about K-1s to feel confident I'm clicking the correct boxes for a liquidated K-1. And, the explanations of various items was too complex for me. I talked to a previous CPA and received assistance so could file my taxes.
Otherwise, my experience w/turbo tax is excellent--very easy to use.

Excellent and easy process

We have used turbo tax for a number of years and find it easy to use and much less time consuming than doing it by ourselves and cheaper than using a tax preparer!

E-File Did Not Work

E-filing was not available - error message stated because I needed to check the updates. Checked the updates received another message that there were no updates. Tried multiple times.

Federal Forms

This year was difficult because the federal government did not release the budget until January 15, 2014 and that delayed the tax forms getting done in time for early filing. The worst was having to wait for OMB to clear the forms. Unfortunately, everyone blamed Turbo Tax but in reality they were making sure people didn't file erroneous returns by waiting for the forms to be finalized. Personally, I appreciate they did not bow to public pressure to make sure I would not be audited. Thank you Turbo Tax!
What's great about it: Despite public comment they made sure the forms were right before allowing customers to file their return.

I'm not sure what changed

I'm not sure what exactly, but it didn't seem the same as it has in the past years (I've used it for over 10 years). It just didn't seem as easy to understand or user friendly although it wasn't bad. My mom said the same thing. Taxes are complicated enough and there is so much changing....please try to keep the program as simple as possible and not make too many 'major' changes next year.
I do like the It's Deductible! That is a huge time saver..
What's great about it: I still like Turbo Tax and it does keep track of my prior years. It's Deductible is a great help!

concise and accurate

I really liked the accurate, concise question driven methodology. The program automatically asked questions to ensure that you get all of the deductions allowed while making sure that you have filled out and counted for all of the income scenarios. Don't have to have a CPA license to get all of the forms accurately.
What's great about it: liked the probing questions
What's not so great: really nothing
