Disappointment with turbo tax
on February 25, 2014
Posted by: jabc
I bought the deluxe edition and expected to be able to e-file my state tax also. While it is written on the box that the state form requires another charge to e-file it is not readily apparent that is the case until trying to file.
Could not import some areas of income.
My nickname only contains 3 letters. Then it was taken I don't think you really want feedback.
What's great about it: Importing data from financial institutions
What's not so great: Having to pay to e-file state form when the state does not charge.

Easy, Quick and very happy every year.

I have used this product every year for 15 years with no problems. Recommended to friends who are paying high fees to have tax done. There is no problems with calculations and the complete forms are checked automatically..
What's great about it: Transfer of prior year information.
What's not so great: New presentation every year (icons)

Strange Errors
on February 25, 2014

A great program with some strange errors and no easy way to get information. My California return has an error preventing efiling that tells me I have filed Motion Picture credit that prevents efiling.. I never have, could not find the filing info in the reports or on line for Motion Picture Credit. For years the program would not print a Schedule SE page one. I had notices from the IRS to supply page 1. Now that is fixed, to be replaced by the phantom Motion Picture credit error. Also, I had a false total for 1099 income reported last year in the do it yourself sheet. It did not match with the return from last year.
What's great about it: Integrates everything
What's not so great: Strange Errors
Pros: I bought or sold investments

We have used TurboTax for many years and have always been happy with the ease of use.
This year's edition seem to have an update everytime I turned the computer on. I thought I was ready to file the taxes and then it would not transmit because I needed another update. Tried three times yesterday and today. Finally completed them today! If I had not had a deadline because of upcoming travel plans, it probably would not have been so frustrating.
Suggestion: It would be more efficient to enter all of the information on a charity at one time. Entering all the dollar amounts and then having to shuffle through all the receipts again to get addresses was too time consuming.
What's great about it: ease of use, helpful hints, covers every detail
What's not so great: not many

2013 TurboTax
on February 25, 2014

Many users besides me seem to have problems understanding the method for completing and reviewing the entry of tax-exempt dividends.
I could find no way to ask a question directly of TurboTax regarding how to enter tax-exempt dividends. I submitted questions where the only answers came from other users who were as confused as I was. Some said, "don't worry, it will come out correctly". For me, this was an inadequate response.
What's great about it: Overall accurate and covers all bases.
What's not so great: Inadequate explanation of forms and procedures relating to tax-free dividends. Poor method to communicate a question.

I would be nice to have a option to add items to your list of it's deductible if the selection items is not listed.
What's great about it: Easy to follow and pick up where I left off
What's not so great: Explanation not very descriptive and limited in your selection of It’s deductible
