Less that thrilled

I don't recall there being a "Refund Processing Fee" in years past. I am willing to pay the State filing fee, but paying MORE money just to have MY money REFUNDED to me seems ludicrous. Yes, direct deposit is a convenience for me - but it is also a convenience and less costly to the government than processing and mailing a check. And we wonder why government overruns go into the billions. Not sure who is really receiving the "Processing Fee" but it should be reexamined.
I will seriously consider using Turbo Tax in the future.
What's great about it: Step by step instruction
What's not so great: Surprise fees when filing.

Easy As Pie!

This is the fourth year of using TurboTax and we are just as pleased this year as in previous years. It is a very user-friendly program and makes the pains of tax preparation not quite as painful. The explainations and helpful hints with each question help you to understand what information is actually needed when you might not be quite sure. Being able to talk with live help is wonderful too!
What's great about it: Easy to navigate!
What's not so great: Self doubt
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Good but not Great Yet

Overall, we had a good experience preparing our joint TR together! We're still married even! He's not a great typist so more features like guessing what he wants to type & suggesting input might help. Neither of us wants to use the import feature even though we could, so we key everything.
For 2 or 3 years, we almost overpaid because the IRA basis & Yr End Value for my hubby's IRA didn't transfer with the other prior yr Ttax data. We had to figure that out & key it ourselves. May also be a problem for spouse but we don't know because I haven't yet taken a RMD. Good thing we had records.
We've been using Ttax since 1998 at least so obviously we're satisfied customers. Don't publish these remarks; just fix the problem! Thanks.
What's great about it: Able to teach my newbie-at-TTax hubby to use without much problem
What's not so great: Still haven't fixed the Taxpayer Trad IRA Basis & YrEnd Value Transfer Problem

I have used Turbo Tax for the past 4 years now. Every year it has become easier than the last. I look forward to next years if you truly include the ability to import this years inf.
What's great about it: Saved me $250 as opposed to CPA who used same software
What's not so great: Fairly labor intense

Two Problems This Year
on February 23, 2014

You appear to have software problem with forms 2555T and S being generated erroneously, causing error alerts in final validation, when only foreign income is dividends from mutual funds on 1099-DIV, which I had entered correctly. Foreign tax credit was applied correctly, but TT wanted me to account for the income as wages, which it was not, causing much frustration. Finally, transmission failed due to the need to update software, which should have been alerted when I opened the return, not when I had been working for hours. After updating, I still could not transmit immediately, as I still got the same update alert.
What's great about it: I am an experienced user. Data entry is pretty easy, as in past years.
What's not so great: Erroneous Foreign Earned Income error in final validation and delay in recognizing software update.

when done, said I couldn't transmit because updated forms needed to be downloaded. checked update and updates were needed. had to go in and out of TurboTax twice to get it to transmit. this is the first year this has happened.
What's great about it: quick and easy
What's not so great: said I had to wait for forms to be ready and signed up for email notification. didn't get the notification.
