Everything went great until I tried to transmit the return. It did not go through because it said there was an update I hadn't loaded. I loaded it but it still would not go through. i called your help desk and was told to restart the computer so the update would take effect. i did and the file was transmitted. If the program had told me to restart i could have avoided a call to your help desk.

Excellent tool to downsize burden of tax filing!

Having been using TurboTax since its first edition for the DOS operating system, therefore for likely over 20 years. TurboTax combined with Quicken usage for the same period of time has made the tax record keeping and filing process easy and efficient.
What's great about it: Intuitive, simple to navigate
What's not so great: Form 1040X doesn't work particularly well!

2013 Not as User Friendly as Prior Years

1. Prior years did not inquire about RMD on routine monthly pension payments. 1099Rs do not provide info to answer these questions and I'm not about to 'contact the administrators' for goodness sake! You also asked for RMD on the distribution of my deceased wife's qualified annuity. I took the full amount and really have no idea if some or all of it can be characterized as RMD. This section of Income needs help. 2. Lastly, I got the message 'Sales Tax Deduction...IRS is still working on this for 2013, shall we send you an email when it is ready on 12/30/13?' Today is 2/21/14, so this made no sense. 3. Regarding your profile questions below ex. job, home, kids, FYI, I'm an old retired guy, recently widowed, in assisted living, so none of the available answers on this survey seem to apply to me.
What's great about it: Carrying over data from prior year. Comparisons to prior year.
What's not so great: Asking for RMD info on routine monthly pensions payments.

The 2013 version of TurboTax seemed more explanatory than in previous years.
What's great about it: Relatively fast and easy to understand
What's not so great: There are always some questions that are mysterious

Easy to use

Hard to get to forms to modify the Estimated Taxes. Hard to determine what to change and how it impacts the total quarterly payment.
What's great about it: Takes me through all steps and they are easy to understand.
What's not so great: Does not automatically restart after an update like it says it will do!
