Big Help
on February 17, 2014

Starting off with carry over of prior year information saves a great deal of time. The import features, especially knowing what institutions I had last year cuts down on thinking process.
My gripe is with State forms of e-file should be part of the price and the Health form, the biggest amount of clicks, should be carried over for ease. A little confusing on Health form when wife is on as a dependent (I found a 2nd subscriber box).
What's great about it: Love the import, especially with financial institution of int-div; showing the prior year info triggered forms to find.
What's not so great: Would think my State health form could be carried over from prior year; State filing should be part of price.

Better all the time

One entry stands out in my mind - Medical Expenses. I spent a little time on this wondering whether I should break out the calculator and try to add up my expenses, but as I read on, I got "the rest of the story" - my medical expenses would need to exceed a percentage of my adjusted gross income. If I had read this fact first, I wouldn't have pursued the issue.
The lesson - tell us enough up front for us to decide whether an entry is worth pursuing. In other words, help us to eliminate entries quickly and not waste time.
I do believe TurboTax has gotten better about this over the last few years, but the above example shows there's still room for improvement.
What's great about it: Easier this year with fewer ambiguous entries
What's not so great: Still needs to tell me early whether an entry applies to me.

HSA troublesome

HSA is confusing if wife and husband both have one. Seems to always give me a problem in this area. Get statements in May and January not sure where to put them on Turbo Tax. Keeps popping up box on amounts to put in. Don't get a good feeling when putting this information in. Can this area be made user friendly some how.
What's great about it: Easy to follow through
What's not so great: HSA gave me a fix 2nd year in a row.
