Great machine!

Although the MFC-9970CDW has capabilities beyond the usual home office needs, my wife and I are active in Lions Club and organize preschool eye screenings, thus requiring a lot of paperwork. We can now duplex scan, duplex print and prepare large numbers of copies and prints at a fraction of the cost of commercial copy centers. It's fast and easy, especially since it works flawlessly on our home network. We thought it extravagant at first, but it may well pay for itself soon!

Nice print for most things

I have really enjoded this prints for most functions.
One of the thing that I don't like is the fact that the "Prepare New Toner Cartridge" message comes up and stays on for MONTHS before the toner is actually gone. If you change the cartridge when this message first comes on you will be only using HALF of the toner. The high price of these cartridges means that you have to use every drop on toner.

The other problem that I have found may not actaully be a printer problem as maybe a driver problem. This is the when printing a picture, I can't use the 3" by 5" photo cards. When I use the 4" by 6" cards the picture only covers about half of the card.
The last problem was that I had Nuance Paperport 14 on my system when I installed the printer. The installation program didnot check for Paperport, but just overwrote it with an old outdated copy of Paperport. The installation program needs to be updated to check for software on the computer

very good color small office work horse

We bought this after struggleing with ink jet multi functions for years. This printer is reliable, fast and perfect for our small work group needs. We run an all macintosh office and this printer works great with all ages of Mac systems and iPads/iPhones. I highly reccomend this printer! Not the least expensive but you get what you pay for.

I have had my 9970 for about 2 months. Print quality and speed are great. However, the pages come out with a curl to them which is annoying. The cartridges are supposed to give you 6000 copies in black. That would be more than a case of paper. The yield is more like 3500 to 4000 copies per cartridge.
Color copies of copies come out dark.

Meets our Needs

I have had the MFC-9970 for about 3 months. Much lighter than the MFC-9840 this machine replaces. Toner is a bit higher in cost is why I rated it a 4 star.

The sweet spot for color laser multifunction unit.

Short and sweet feedback after three weeks running it. This machine albeit a bit pricy for what you get...provides surprisingly great color for a laser, great print quality, fast everything, noisy, a bit of a rattle box, but gets the darn job done well. Can't wait to see how well the supplies hold up over time, but for now...I prefer this over the inkjet printer for anything other than photo quality prints.

I find 9970CWD to be much improved in terms of mechanical reliability, ease of monitoring cartridges and quality of color printing than the MFC-9420 CN it replaced.
