It doesn't matter what you put in, it will come out exactly right every time. The display on the front that show progress and time left, is very helpful when making breakfast. I guarentee you will catch yourself saying WOW! when you use it. I hope to get many years out of this well thought out toaster. The design and looks fit in great with the rest of my stainless steel and black kitchen.

I love the digital display & automatic lift. PLEASE NEVER discontinue this toaster!! The manual one is not as well made.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The light/dark setting on this toaster runs from 1 (light) to 7 (dark). Any setting above a 2 will provide burned toast. One of the slots doesn't toast evenly on both sides of the bread, so we have to set it on 1, flip the bread and leave it in for another 10-15 seconds. Seems toasters are simple mechanisms, so it's surprising this (and toasters in general) doesn't work any better than it does.
On the plus side, when it's toasting, there is a countdown (i.e., lighted bars that decease as the bread gets closer to popping up). This is a nice feature because you can see how close you are to "pop-up." When the toast does pop up, there is a tone, so if you're engaged in another activity the toaster announces that it's done.
I'll recommend this toaster - not because it's great, but because it's no worse (toasting-wise) than others we've owned, and it has some nice features.

We really like the single beep when it comes up again, so that if we are busy, we know when it is done. The other features on it are good too.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Great toaster to confound your engineering offspring. We use it at least five times per week. Here on the ranch, my wife and I have breakfast and often there are children and grandchildren who drop in for a second breakfast. At first the engineers were not impressed, then they saw it work. Imagine toasting bagels only on the cut side. I had some trouble with the controls, I bought one of the first, so it was long past the warranty, but KITCHENAID was fair with me.
