I started out with an HP 2310e monitor as my first wide screen monitor. I still have the 2310e and am still happy with it. I did get some damage to the screen on the 2310e after using it for over 1 1/2 years. I also learned how to avoid this. I rubbed out the scratches in the screen on the 2310e, but left an area where some material was missing on surface of the screen. The monitor still looks pretty good and the damage is not very noticeable at all. But I decided that I would get a new monitor and keep the 2310e as a backup.
The image quality of the 2310e was very good and I liked the monitor very well, overall. So the first thing I did was to look for another one to buy. I didn't find any, so I concluded that they have been discontinued. After careful shopping, I discovered that the HP 2511 monitors were available and they seemed very popular. I wound up buying one.
The 2310e and 2511 look almost identical, except that the 2511 is 2 inches larger diagonally. The only problem I had was that the setup instructions for the 2511 were unclear as to how the controls for the monitor worked. The 2511 and 2310e are almost identical, and the 2310e controls work by touch. There are no buttons on the 2310e-only icons that you touch for all the controls.
The instruction sheet for the 2511 has no text on it, only simple illustrations. It looked as though the controls were operated by touch, but they are not. I couldn't get the monitor to turn on, even though I saw that it was getting power because an LED was lit in the back where the power supply plugs in. I set the monitor aside, thinking that it was dead. I started to make arrangements to send it back.
The next day I checked it over again very carefully and saw that even though the icons looked like the ones on the 2310e, they do not operate by touch, but instead there are buttons underneath the right corner of the monitor frame that are the controls. The setup instruction sheet didn't show this. I was very relieved to find that the monitor was not dead and I didn't have to send it back.
The 2511 seems to be identical to the 2310e as far as quality and overall appearance are concerned. I hardly know I'm using a different monitor now, except for the slight difference in size. Anyway, the quality was good on the 2310e and it's about the same with the 2511.
I'd like to mention that I saw one or two reviews where people were saying that the appearance of text wasn't good on this 2511 monitor, and one guy said that he got a headache from reading text on his monitor. The tiny text that I'm typing into this review looks perfect to me. All you have to do is to perform a factory reset on the monitor from the main menu and then go to Image Control and then to Sharpness and then choose "3" for sharpness. Sharpness settings range from "1" thru "5", so "3" is in the middle and is absolutly perfect for text on this monitor.
I've put quite a few hours of use on this monitor already and it seems to be working perfectly and the image quality is every bit as good as I need it to be. I also noticed that there was not even one bad pixel on either of my HP monitors. The other 2310e monitor has over 1 1/2 years of everyday use on it and the picture quality is as good as brand new.
Anyway, I'm happy with the 2511 monitor. I would recommend it and I would suggest that Hewlett-Packard make the setup instructions a little more clear so people won't think there is something wrong with their monitor.

Not for CAD or Photoshop Work
on January 12, 2012

The specifications for the monitor are great. The images are very clear however, the screen is so highly reflective it is like looking into a mirror regardless of what the image is on the screen. After looking at the screen for 30 minute my eyes started to hurt. I had to lower the brightness settings significantly to be able to do CAD or Photoshop work. I am going to return the product and replace it with a 24" size monitor with a low reflective screen. Also the base/stand alow only minor tilt and no height adjustment.

Problems with the stand.

The picture is excellent. There are problems with the stand. The base unit doesn't fit well with the neck, it's slightly off. This causes the monitor to set crooked. I have worked with it and finally got it straight, but it was no easy chore. There is a flaw in the stand on mine and although I could probably send it back, if I can get it to work, I don't want the hassle. I do feel quality control should have picked up on it though.

Bright and Detailed

I replaced an HP 20" LCD monitor with this monitor. The larger size is welcome, as it opens up spreadsheets and documents and easily allows for side by side pages, which I find useful for work. The colors and resolution are excellent. The white tone is very bright, even with the brightness turned down considerably, unlike the creamy tone of my previous LCD monitor. It takes getting used to.

This was the first HP monitor I have purchased. I have purchased numerous 23" to 27" LG and Samsung monitors, and I must say I'm very impressed with this monitor, the quality and picture are as good as the others, if not better. It takes a lot to please me when it comes to a decent monitor and this one has done the trick.

Great monitor. Miss having speakers in the monitor. Didn't like having to buy speakers because the new monitors don't have them built in.
