Once installed the unit worked very well. Quality prints , copies, and scans To get there-another story: Installation was problematic. Th PDF software took over an existing installation of NITRO - this required cleaning up the mess , re registering and that only after significant time analyzing an approach. Why the install didn't recognize the existing install and at least ask - I don't know. Regarding scanning - and this is true of our 9560CDW as well The scan interface is at best difficult. Setting changes require restart of the system -WHY??? Our "P" scanner doesn't. And the file management is somewhat convoluted Still our history with Brother products for reliability has been good They make good, reliable hardware. Perhaps they can learn to improve the human interface

To Brother Printer Comp,
The MFC-786DW is excellent printer, and good quality printer. However, using Linux Ubuntu OS, you do not offering the printer driver. I had hard time...make printer properly performance I would like to purchase colour printer in the future with the LINUX OS driver company ???? Thank for your concern.
Respectfully submitted,
Customer

How do you print envelopes?

I've previously owned and used an Epson later printer, an HP inkjet printer, and never had any difficulty figuring out how to print envelopes. Yet, after installing the Printer driver from the CD-ROM for this Brother printer, and paging through the manual, I still don't see where (like on other printers I've used) there is a kind of drop-down menu and you click on Envelopes (after you have the document on the screen) and the printer prints the envelopes! I don't see where any of this exists on this Brother printer! Is it necessary that such a basic printer function (printing envelopes) be so difficult to figure out?
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Not impressed

I almost didn't buy this machine because of others saying the fan was way too loud. On my machine the fan is a little loud but no where near the level that others have said. It only took a few uses and i'm already used to it and it sits directly behind me. However I hate using the brother connect4 interface that you need to use when scanning! For that reason alone, I have only given it 2 stars. I guess I'm spoiled by my Samsung all in one at home.

Great features for the price

This printer, scanner, fax, copier has many great features. I really like the duplexing feature, saving paper and space. I also really like the scan to email feature, usually only available on much higher-end machines. I do wish it had better printer margins, allowing copy to be a bit closer to the edge of the paper. The quality of grayscale/screened images could be better as well. The images are not as sharp as I would like. The dot pattern may have a lot to do with this. Overall, it's a good piece of equipment for the price.
