network too complicated

The printer is great. But trying to connect to wired or wireless network is almost impossible.
I am in charge of a dozen computers with an SBS2003 server at work, but could not get this to work on home network.
But attached to computer (USB) it is flawless and very happy with it.

Excellent

This is my third Brother printer product, and the best one so far. I have Brother MFC's at work that are nearly the same as what I bought, so I knew how reliable and capable this printer would be and is. Installation went exactly as instructions said it would...easy, quick, and flawless. Brother was the only manufacturer I seriously considered when I upgraded from the previous Brother laser printer (that I gave to my daughter to use in her home for her school work). I didn't find a printer near as good or capable for anywhere near the price. I'm sold on Brother, brother (and sister)!
I would recommend this to a friend!

If you don't need color, this printer saves you a lot of money and the toner cartridge lasts forever. I highly recommend it. No problems with setup!

MFC-7860DW Printer

We ordered one to test with our case management system. We required the onboard emulation of PCL. It worked fine, so we ordered nine more and they work very well. The initial cartridge ran out quickly, but the normal ones work fine. The scanning and copying are both very quick and very clear. We scan all our documents at each desk saving time and space. Our counter clerks use the front two printers for copying client documents which reduces the run to the departmental copier. I give this printer an excellent rating.

just a great product

the world would be a much better place if more products and services worked as well and were as cost effective as many of the Brother MFC's. This is the third MFC we have added.. The 465cn must be 7 or 8 years old and it still cranks away, the 8710dn is a couple of years old.. and now 7460DN also just plain works.. no paper jams, scanner is simple and perfect, printing is also, envelops too... I used to buy knockoff cartridges but now we buy Brother refills as they are reasonably priced on Amazon and I'm so pleased with the MFC's and Brother.

Cheap to buy, expensive to run, lots of headaches

Soon after buying this product -- but outside the warranty period -- I noticed that after just a couple hundred copies, the print becomes so pale that I need to change the toner cartridge, even though there is plenty of toner left. Currently alternating among three different cartridges depending on how good a print product I need! Also, the copy function produces an even lighter result than the print function. Tech support was unable to resolve; replacing drum didn't help. I noticed same machine at another office and confirmed that they have the same problem. Also, the manual paper input is poorly designed and clunky to use. My last machine was a Brother, but after this one I am reluctant to buy a third one. As the electronics get ever more sophisticated, the physical product seems to get flimsier.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

There are too many little things that add up that make this machine a dissappointment. The fax software limits the number of attempts and does not permit any control on the time interval. Can print duplex but can't fax the printed duplex forms unless done manually. No point in doing lots of duplex printing if i'm forced to send them manually which would consume far too much time. Many more complaints but not worth any more of my time. Wish i had not purchased this.
