Works as expected

It is a good product for the price. I was able to scan 250 documents in a couple of hours because of the auto-feed capability.
I bought this printer for two reasons:
1. I wanted an auto feed scanner/fax machine.
2. I needed to replace the drum on my HL-5370DW Brother printer, and it was "cheaper" to buy a new machine.
I have only two complaints:
1. The paper tray could be a little larger.
2. The sound that the printer makes sounds a little cheap; it does not sound as solid as my HL-5370DW which I love.

I feel that the printer is a good product WHEN IT IS OPERATIONAL!!! Living in Florida we are subject to numerous and sometimes vicious storms, not attempting to exclude Hurricanes which are another story. The major problem I have been experiencing is that when a storm “knocks out the power” for some reason or the other the “Network Card” must go blank or something and the printer goes off line. Under normal circumstances this would be OK, however there is no notification and when you really need to print something that’s when you find out your offline??????
My question:
Is there some way to be notified when “offline”?? Without having to check every Wi-Fi or connection??
Is there an easy fix?? I do follow all the directions to fix it although if I’m printing I do need it now?? Last minute changes for a class assignment or a work project??
When I speak to your support staff they are very kind, courteous and helpful.
Thanks
Bob

Good But Not Great

This is a nice, inexpensive multifunction unit. The monochrome laser printer is very good for home use - fast, clear and good with (grey-scale) pictures. The scanner is good for most functions, but puts streaks in "vintage" photos - the kind of photos that have a sepia tinge and lots of brown areas; modern photos and pictures seem to scan just fine (a mystery I haven't been able to figure out). The copier is also good - the "automatic" capability doesn't work well, but when set to copy photos, it will copy a page with mixed text and pictures just fine. I haven't had occasion to use the fax. Things I like best: The Laser Printer - price of the unit is justified by this capability, alone. Things I like least: (1) The control display (needed for copying and faxing) is very small, low contrast and hard to read. (2) I'm disappointed in the scanner - I'll probably buy a stand-alone flat bed scanner to digitize my old family photo albums (and it will not be a Brother scanner). All in all, this is a very low cost unit with pretty good capabilities -- if you don't want it to digitize old photos, I would recommend it.

This is my third MFC machine and the wireless feature is awsome. I can print from anywhere in my home and even from my IPhone. I have had this one about a year and it might have misfead 3 times its so simple work with I don't need a $5000 Dollar tank to do everything I need!!

I switched from HP lasers years ago. This MFC 7860DW performs all of its functions flawlessly. It is connected wirelessly to my network. It scans, copies, faxes and prints quickly and with ease. Works perfectly everytime out. Copies are accurate. Scanning is quick and easy once the intial setup is completed. There is great variety in your scan settings and you may choose the exact location of your scanned images. It prints clearly and quickly. A great buy for a great machine

Too many issues with this model

I left HP and joined Brother as the sales person said no hassle printer MFC7860DW. It was hassle from the first week and I still have multiple problems getting it to work. It work then it stop again for different reason every time. I hate it. I will go back to HP or try Cannon next time. The documentations Brother put for troubleshooting are no idea what they are talking about. HP excellent done and just follow and you get your issues fixed. Menu on the Brother is in a language no one understands. HP is easy and clear to do anything you need too. Without tech support with Brother no way you can fix your printer problems. Customer service if you got them right away they do solve your problems. I can give them 4 stars for CS.

I like the printer/fax/copying abilities and speed. My frustration is with the remote printing from my iZpad and iPhone. Instead of using Apple software, as I thought it would from the advertising, I have to use the Brother software which requires that I open that software then find the document listed in one of several possible sources, then open the document, then print it. With HP printers, I can print directly from the open document. Why can't Brother use the Apple printing software instead of creating their own?
