very nice unit with caveat

this unit is great. the small form factor and good features (like built in network) make this a no-brainer for small devices that need protection.
there is only ONE issue that I have with this unit that keeps it from truly being the perfect device:
NO SNMP SUPPORT
why?
i monitor everything in the enterprise and this is the one APC product that does not have it, and i kind of hate it for that.
the next version NEEDS to have this.

Do the Math Before You Buy!

With up to *8 years* of service from the lithium-ion battery, this UPS is much more economical than you might, at first, assume. Lead acid batteries often don't last more than 2 or 3 years, and are not particularly cheap to replace. For small loads, or your $$$ new 4K LCD or OLED television, this UPS is just you need for peace of mind against power quality issues.

Not worth $5

A UPS that doesn't actually work is pretty much useless right? After purchasing THREE of these to try to protect my electronics from surges and the occasional short outage, I can say that not one of them is worth $5, much less the prices I paid for them. The batteries might last 20 minutes (42 inch flat screen and apple tv 4k attached for reference), the alarms are absolutely infuriating, management is 20 years old, and ultimately it DOES NOT DO ITS JOB. Personally, I will never waste my money on any Schneider or APC product again as these should not be sold to consumers.
Cons: Difficult to Use, Runs Hot, Difficult Maintenance, Difficult Management, Too Expensive, Part Failure, Not Fast Enough, Lacking Vendor Support, Low Confidence in 24/7 Uptime
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Great piece of hardware

I purchased the BG500 to backup my networking gear: 2 routers and a cable modem. Also, I wanted to have a UPS that I could cycle individual outlets and to be able to remotely manage configuration and operation from the WAN. So far, I've been pleased with the setup and performance. I have the BG500 networked and port forwarding turned on in my router so I can access the management software from the WAN. All working pretty good...and stable.

Love this UPS for my environment. Very small footprint, and does a great job. Love the fact that it has a 8 year warranty as well. Would buy again.
