This ice maker does not have an articulating hinge so it cannot sit in your kitchen cabinetry - it needs to sit out an inch so the poorly designed door can open. All of the other kitchenaid products have an articulating hinge so it’s unclear why they ruined this product with such a bad design flaw.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

The machine stopped making ice after its first 48 hours.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I do like the machine and it does make ice well. It is very quiet. HOWEVER the filter is so sensitive I have to put in a water filter system at the water source or I'll be changing the filters every two weeks. Machine stopped working after two weeks because of the filter . This apparently is not unique to my household as the factory authorized repairman knew the problem as soon as he arrived. Filters are too sensitive and too expensive. Nothing in the literature prepared us for this when we were shopping for a replacement icemakers. Although I like the machine this does put a cloud over my pleasure with it!
