Didn't work when set up Christmas morning

I bought AV wires and fiber optic
I hooked everything up and lights came on on the bar and no sound came out. Uhg. Double checked. everything. I even hooked up an ipod to it.
Nothing.
Bad Christmas morning.
Returning it ASAP.
