Horrible!!

I recieved this can opener for my new home, based on the reviews from my parents on their old black and decker can opener.. after about 6 months the door will NOT stay closed, of course I do not have the pkg or reciept to return

I really don't know how anyone else can't mount this correctly. It's clear that it mounts towards the center of the flat part under the cabinet and not against the front skirt of the cabinet. If you wanted to mount it so far forward, then you have two problems: 1. The door of the spacemaker protrudes further than the your actual cabinets. 2. You'll have to use a 3/4" spacer (a piece of wood) in order to mount it flush with the bottom of the cabinet skirt. Which, potentially causes your kitchen to look hokey if you can still see that piece of wood after install. However, the package DOES GIVE YOU black spacers that acts the same as that hokey piece of wood board - it drops the spacemaker to be flush with the bottom of the skirt. Therefore, if you don't want to use the provided spacers, you have to install the spacemaker further back towards the center of the base of the cabinet. This undermount spacemaker does exactly what it supposed to do - work. I have yet to have a black and decker product that doesn't live up to it's reputation, and have purchased this exact unit for every home I've moved into over the past decade and it's always worked as it says. So, it helps to understand that install is really more common sense, than a complicated engineering feat.

I rreceived this as a Christmas gift to replace a 20+ year old version of the Under the Cabinet style. I cannot install it because of the only flat bottom cabinet issue. The door swinging down kills the Spacemaker name because now nothing can be on the counter UNDER the can opener. It would not be so bad if it were removable, but i couldn’t figure out how to do so. I cannot be the only one who wants the sturdy box spacer and easy to use can opener again?

Good Product. But installation can be tricky. It is only made for flat bottom cabinets. I need to create a wooden block or something to lower the Opener underneath the cabinet to make it work properly. If you don't, the Lid won't close and the Cutter won't raise enough to remove and clean.The template is another issue. A paper template?? Really.Paper is bad. I wish it had the original "X" spacers on the plastic spacer cutouts included. See Picture below. This way, you can just put the spacers where they belong and drill holes. Now it comes with 12 different style plastic spacers. The second person has to hold spacers while the first person tries to catch the holes on the Opener. Again, good product, we love the design and door closure, but installation, 2-3 people, Look at the pic. The Spacers on the "X" plastic part are the same dimensions as the holes. The new spacers come separately. Gravity comes into play here.

I know no one with flat bottom cabinets. This took all day to finagle and fudge. Had to put on end cabinet to not block under the cabinet.
