Love my Mom's old Broil King that was this style so I ordered one. Before I ever used it I noticed that the plates fall out every couple times I opened it, the plates fall out. They don't seem to fit very well either. Returned without ever using. Too bad, in theory it's a great idea.

Poorly made.

The first grill/griddle/wafflemaker I got did not heat properly and left waffles and pancakes raw inside after 15 minutes of cooking. Cooking plates did not seat properly in grid clips and notches, causing one of them to pop out. The non-stick coating was scratched. I got a replacement. The replacement has the same problem with the cooking plates, in addition to which the back hinge is loose, causing the top to slide all over the bottom and causing the top to overhang the bottom by 3/8 to 1/4". The top also does not sit level on the bottom, so one corner is raised higher than the rest. This second unit also fails to cook waffles properly; they come out half burnt and half raw after 15 minuites' cooking time. But the instruction manual says "cooking time is 3 to 5 minutes"!

Keep Looking
on February 11, 2012

I wanted to love this waffle iron/griddle combo....but I'm ready to chuck it out the door and into the yard.
First of all....to me, "nonstick" means food should not stick. Food DOES stick (see my photo). Per the instructions, I have "conditioned" the supposedly nonstick surface with oil, to no avail. My waffles stick every time. I've added more oil to my waffle mix....waffles still stick. And when I say stick, I mean, they rip in half, one half on top, the other on the bottom, and have to be chiseled out once everything has cooled down.
Second, the griddle gets so hot that the shortening we use bakes onto it permanently, making the surface tacky and gross. Even multiple trips through the dishwasher have failed to remove this residue.
Third, this thing gets scary hot. While attempting to open it without ripping the waffle, your fingers get burned by the steam that escapes. And, you can't touch anything but the top and bottom handles, which makes it difficult to PRY it open (yes, I have to PRY IT OPEN, sometimes using a knife tip for leverage.)
This device is a colossal failure....keep looking.

we have enjoyed this waffle maker

we really like that this makes crisp waffels on the outside and moist on the inside. We have used it for our gluten free bread substitute so we use it a lot. We have had it for three years and the pans aren't holding its finish very well so our waffles are sticking to the pans. I want to buy new pans but havn't been able to purchase just the pans. Every site I have gone to says I have to buy the whole thing. I am frusterated because part of the reason we bought this in the first place was so that if one part broke we could buy replacements but it wasn't so.

Poor clasp design is dangerous!
on December 26, 2014

I was so excited to find a traditional four square waffle iron that I bought two for our Christmas Eve waffel buffet. Tragically the upper clasp holding the top griddle in place is poorly designed and inadequate in holding the top grill in place. The grill drops when opening the lid which is incredibly frightening and dangerous with a hot waffle iron. This product should be recalled. Both units malfuntioned exactly the same.

It's made out of cheapest materials you can buy!
The retaining clip is barely strong enough to hold the griddle
Plates in place.
The hinge is too weak, doesn't close properly
And worst of all it cooks unevenly!

The grill plates do not fit properly. They fall out, screaming hot, when preparing waffles or grilled foods. This is both dangerous and inconvenient.
