I was looking for a model to be able to remove the plates for cleaning which were not for Belgin waffles but for the thinner waffles. I had tried Model WM2200SD but did not like the thick waffles, so called Black and Decker and they suggested this Model G48TD. The Waffles come out great, but I am having problems with the plates. When I open the lid to take out the waffle the lower plate comes loose, and I have to fight to keep from getting burnt trying to remove the waffle from the plate. One problem is the design of the clip that holds the lower plate which does not work well. Also, there is a spring-loaded box in the lower inside of the maker that keeps pushing the lower plate up where the lower clip does not hold the plate down. The upper plate works well. I have only used it two times, so will plan to give it another try. Just not happy with the design. Also, when the lid is opened there is not much of a way to keep from getting burnt. Needs better design on handles to open. Seems to cook the waffle well except for fighting the lower plate and clip issue. I wish this model was designed more like the Model WM2200SD plates, etc. Had not problems with it other than the thick waffles although it did not brown very well.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Big Disappointment!

I have enjoyed my original Toastmaster Waffle Iron for years, but it was time for a new Waffle Maker. The Black & Decker model G48TD looked like the perfect replacement. Unfortunately, this was not the case. My new Waffle Maker is a low cost copy of the original with many concerns. The top and bottom plates did not match up because the frame was twisted. I had to bend it back into alignment. When opening the Waffle Maker it would tip backwards, so the batter flowed off the back side of the grid plate. I used shims to adjust the rear support 1/16" to correct this problem. The non-stick surface had only one small nick as it came out of the box. After oiling the non stick surface with a soft brush and using a paper towel to wipe off any excess oil there now are multiple places where the non stick coating has come off. Finally, the control knob for selecting the heat setting is very flimsy and seems as if it will not last very long before breaking. Big Disappointment!!!

this is the poorest piece of cooking equipment I have ever seen. From the beginning, after following the instructions, it stuck and the waffle plates fell off. I would never buy another black & decker product or take it if it was given to me.

Waffles stick to plates

I have had the same problem with the waffles sticking to the plates as have several others. It would be helpful to be able to replace the plates, but I have not found any. Such a waste to have to throw away the whole appliance.

Regular waffle maker as opposed to Belgium one.

I purchased this waffle maker in another town or I would take it back. After getting it home, I washed and oiled as should. When trying to put grids back in the bottom plate would not go back in. Seemed a little warped and the clip on the bottom would not hold in. (they were aligned) The grids were also loose. I finally did get the bottom grid to stay in. (just barely) Made the waffles and the front ones came out done but the back two were not cooked enough. If I leave the waffles in long enough for the back ones to cook, the front ones burn. I wouldn't recommend this waffle maker and am really disappointed since can't find another "regular" waffle maker anywhere.

Product does not work for us...would return if possible. Waffles stick and will not come out, despite "seasoning" per the guidelines. Have to use a knife to pry it open, which results in waffles ripping.....see photo.
Griddle side gets so hot, the oil we use to "season" it burns on and will not come off, leaving the surface tacky to the touch and gross. Multiple trips through the dishwasher cannot remove this residue. Would not recommend this product and ours is headed for the Goodwill. Keep looking.

Waffles do bake but don't stay hot. Folding back the top to flat position can catch the spring cord between the plates. Plates don't clip in securely and evenly. They are nonstick coated so food removes easily. Not like my old one.
