I purchased my Roku 12/15/15. After a month of happy service I'm so happy I did. I do not have cable service in my bed room so Roku is a very welcome unit. I'm very happy.

TV Alternative

I bought this because I'm thinking of dropping Cable TV. I think it will work. I wish it had a way to link to my network to find my computer. Everything seems to work fine. I do find the controls to be a little slow.

Worth Waiting For

I waited a long time to finally have a Roku. For what I want to use a television for it is the right solution. I can create my custom radio stations and that is awesome. I can stream my Amazon Prime television shows and movies as many times as I want to watch them. The tech support is very good. You might have to wait for them, too, but it is easier than driving somewhere for help or waiting on the phone. They are very patient when your television and Roku are not in the same room as your computer.
It has only been a day, but I am very happy with this purchase.

How to set up without using credit-card data.

If you don't want to submit credit card data duringset up and, for example, just use your paid Netflix account, call up Roku customer service during the set-up process and they will finish the set up. The customer support phone number is in your instruction booklet. It's a slight pain in the neck and complicates set up. There should be a simple option in the set-up scheme labeled "No Credit Card."

Awesome Little Box

I bought this box about 3 months ago and I am amazed at all the channels they have that can fill my day without having to use the old cable TV. I have nothing but praise for this unit. You can use the HDMI for your HDTV and the additional audio outputs to your AVR and you can listen to the many music channels and live streaming channels and the podcast channels in beautiful stereo sound. This is a must if you have Amazon Prime or Vudu OnDemand or use Crackle or for just curling up on the couch and hitting one of the many free movie channels they have out there with a large bowl of popcorn and having a night in. Definitely invest in a Roku box. I am so happy I did.

This is my 3rd ROKU. I was in an accident and bed-bound 2 1/2 years ago. It was difficult for me even to read, so my wife surprised me with a ROKU (XD). I was AMAZED by all its capabilities. So much so, that I bought one for my daughter and family (a ROKU 3). Assessing my own needs -- especially for an enhanced remote -- I bought my own Christmas present already: a new ROKU (2). The ROKU runs great and it was so easy for me to set up, in spite of my handicaps. Now, with the ROKU and the new remote, when I put my 1 1/2 year old grandson down for a nap, I can continue watching MY stations on ROKU with the earphones--which silence the TV -- so I don't wake him up. Thank you, ROKU for your amazing products!!!

People who give this product low scores...

People who give this device low scores don't understand the device, and should either do the research, or stick with Comcast/Optimum/etc. I've had the first gen Roku XD-S for quite a while, and at first, didn't see what the big deal was. Put it back in the box & sort of forgot about it. Got bored about a year later & started googling about the product, and started finding all the "secret" features and functions of this device. Now it's my go-to device and I can't imagine not having it. I recently purchased a Roku 3 for my bedroom TV as well, because my wife doesn't like the sound of the TV when I'm watching TV in bed. Between the Roku and a product called Plex Media Center, you can quite literally watch so much streaming content that you'll never get bored. You can find every show you currently get from big cable. You can watch your own media from your PC on your Roku device easily. Youtube is not a problem for the Plex system on Roku, so the one and only gripe some people legitimately have about it (doesn't natively play youtube) is no longer an issue.
