Love the new channels and the steramlined device

We are really happy about our device, love the new features, especially the captions. Sometimes it seems like it gets REALLY hot. Then it starts to work slow and actually didn't work for a while. We hooked up our old one for a while and then went back to this one and it works as before... though still gets really hot. Not sure if thats normal.

This is our second Roku! We had to get one to use with earphones. It is so nice to be able to watch and listen to movies and not bother my husband. Often it is hard for me to get to sleep or stay asleep so this is just perfect. We never watch regular TV any more. Using the Roku is by far better than streaming through a Wii which we were doing before.

I have a continuing problem of the Roku 2 remote “unpairing” with the player.
This started in January when after about 3 weeks the remote for my new Roku 2 "unpaired" from the player. Roku’s technical support personnel ran me through an extensive protocol of powering down the player, taking batteries out of the remote, pushing the button in the back of the remote, resetting the player, etc. All of this resulted in the remote pairing with the player; but, after a few minutes or, at most, after about 24 hours the remote unpaired. I received a 2nd Roku 2 and after 3-4 weeks the same thing happened; and, finally, I'm on my 3rd Roku 2 and the same thing is happening again after about 3 weeks. Each time I have followed the protocol for pairing the remote with the player and each time the pairing lasts just a few minutes or at most 24 hours.
Here are some additional facts:
• When the remote “unpairs” from the player the movie continues to stream, but I can no longer control it with the remote or hear the sound through the earbuds attached to the remote.
• When the remote unpairs from the player I can control the player with an app on my iPAD, but that doesn't help since due to hearing issues I have to listen to the audio on earbuds through the remote.
• I know that the problem is not with my Comcast modem/router. This issue occurred back in January when I was using a five-year old Comcast supplied and installed modem/router. However, about 5 weeks ago as part of an upgrade program Comcast installed a new modem/router which is their latest version.
• I know the problem is not with my wireless signal because when the remote stops pairing with the player my wireless laptop and iPAD can get on the internet and the movie continues to stream but can’t be controlled with the remote.
• We did not have any unusual electronic equipment in our house
• There isn't any interference from our neighbors since the closest home is about 100 feet away, but more importantly all the homes around us are vacant in the winter when the problem first occurred
• Finally, I was wondering if I purchased a Roku 3 and connected it to my modem/ router via an ethernet cable might I then eliminates the problem. I put this question one of Roku’stechnical representatives in an e-mail but did not get a response.

I bought this 1 month ago and it was rather simple to set it up however you can't turn it off; you can't log out it didn't work well for my tv. It was too aggravating so I gave up and bought a smart tv. I won't begin to tell you how aggravating it was to set up but now it's fantastic.

Still has issues

I originally was excited about purchasing a Roku3 but when I got it home I was surprised to find out it had no audio outputs. Since I am hearing impaired and have to use a good set of pioneer wireless headphones to hear audio I had to return the Roku3 and purchase a Roku2. This allowed me to connect the audio output to my Pioneer wireless system and not I can hear the Roku2 programming. After using it for a week I see that it is subject to occasionally freezing such as others have reported, and it runs really hot as also reported. Obviously Roku has seen these issues reported but has done nothing about them.
Overall I am satisfied with the Roku2 video and audio but due to the lack of audio output I most likely will look at other solutions in the near future. If Roku releases a new model and it includes an audio output function then I would most likely stay with the Roku product. I guess I'm surprised that they removed the audio output in the first place. There are a lot of senior citizens such as myself that have hearing problems and not having audio out is going to steer them toward more comprehensive solutions.
