Cheaper than cable TV!

I bought the Roku 2 about a month ago when my old Wii console died so I was no longer able to watch Netflix and Amazon Prime videos on my television. After crunching some numbers, I discovered that it would be cheaper to get a Wii Mini (no internet connection) with another device for streaming programs than it would be to purchase a Wii U (which has the connection built in). I am still using an RCA television I purchased in 2002, which is not an HDTV, so I was thrilled to find the Roku 2 which is compatible with my current TV and is also HD ready for my next TV. When I set up the Roku 2, I discovered so many channels available to me that I downgraded my cable TV package. Now that I've used it for about a month, I plan to downgrade our cable TV even further. We get to choose and pay for only what we want to see at a fraction of the cost of cable. Definitely a "win-win".

Great little device

I bought this to simply stream Netflix and Hulu. I had the Xbox in the living room and wanted to switch it to my bedroom so I bought this and it works great.

I don't like the Roku

The programming stinks. The shows I like aren't available on Roku, discovery channels like ID. The paranormal show are so poorly done, you cannot hear anyone speak, they talk, but there is no mic so all you hear a few mumbles, I have watched one movie and that is it since I bought this thing. I may sell it.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

So glad I bought this - was only in the store to "look" but went ahead after being assured that I would be able to set it up - and I was! So nice not having to wait for a dvd to arrive in the mail anymore.

Remote only works 1/4 of the time

We got this as a Christmas gift a year ago. We love what it can do, but get so frustrated with the remote. It works very rarely, I've tried resetting the remote, and restarting the roku, neither work. The only thing that does work is to take out the batteries and put them back in, everytime we use the remote. This starting happening 3 months after we recieved this roku, and has gotten worse over time. We have even tried using the roku apps on our smart phones. Same exact thing happened, worked for a few months, and then worked randomly. I'm very dissapointed in this product because its a hassle to use.
