Great streaming device with performance issues

I bought the Roku 2 solely because the remote has a headphone jack. My wife and I watch a lot of shows while the kids are sleeping and got tired of adjusting the volume when a scene goes from quiet (and usually important) dialogue to normal volume. Or normal volume to high action explosions--This would occasionally cause a child to wake up and poke their head around the corner, leading to less time to watch. The Roku 2 solved this.
The only real (major) complaint is that the system seems unnecessarily slow. Channels take a while to load, , the remote doesn't respond sometimes or the Roku 2 won't listen to it--But a few smacks with the had generally kicks it back into shape. The Roku itself gets quite hot on the bottom, maybe 115 *F. There is no ventilation, so I tend to think this will cause premature failure of the unit. Even when nothing is playing, it still feels very warm. I've had this unit since Dec. 2013 and also own 2 Chromecast. I will hold off on buying another Roku for the moment, though I would really like to add another Roku 2 or even a 3 to my lineup.

I purchased three Roku 2 for me, wife and daughter all have different viewing habits. I like to go back on my fav TV series. But again more service only give pay apps or channels and added cost. I was able to get my On Demans HBO and SHO to work with the Roku. I could understand my cable bill is $250 month and don't want it going higher with added service We did add Netfix. I have Amazon already anyway. I would like a references of the channels and their ost up front. I have to dig to find it. I like a on screem forward feature then a frame per frame versionoku does. For the high prce Roku is it had it hucup a few times. But that all due to you wireless connection. Picture is great and it does it job for what you want to add. But I like direction and what these channels with better deatil. For those on a burget it fine. But for what you want vs. cable it the same price. Without the TV ads. Which are so annoying now.
