It has a variety of free channels, but not many that I care to watch. Most need a subscription to a cable provider, which is was the main reason for my purchase to eliminate paying such over priced services.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Had this now for 10 months. I highly recommend it over regular TV. Would like to see better explanation of screen options, sorting of paid or free would be nice.

We bought our ROKU 2 a year+ ago.. and we absolutely LOVE IT..one time payment MONTHS of entertainment! Most marvelous thing since in door plumbing! What would have been a one months payment for cable, dish or satellite, has been the best thing we have bought for the dollar value in decades!!!!

The Roku 2 works great. It has all the content options I could want--except for iTunes, of course but we all know why that wouldn't happen. But it does have pretty much every other streaming content providers you could ask for, including at long last, YouTube. With that addition it is pretty much complete. I don't need to play games on a Roku, which means I don't need a box any fancier than this one. The price is great and the wifi reception is excellent -- this box streams when a PS3 won't.
I would recommend this to a friend!

I am finally able to get rid of cable. I tried a few times but always went back to it like a bad habit. Now - between Youtube, Netflix and Amazon Prime I can watch many of the things I am interested in. The only reason I didn't rate it 5 stars is that the Youtube search feature is not the smoothest and I am not sure why some of my youtube channels show up and then disappear other times.
I would recommend this to a friend!
