Nice experience, except for ...

I originally had a Roku 1 which I liked, but I began having problems viewing Redbox Instant movies. (I didn't when I initially signed up for Redbox Instnat) I thought upgrading to a Roku 2 would solve the problem. It didn't. I returned it. I talked to the Redbox Instant support people and they said I needed another flavor of Roku 2. I found a Roku 2 XD on ebay, which I thought would solve the problem. It didn't. It seems that Roku and Redbox Instant don't play well with each other. I think there must have been some software changed that caused the problem. In addition, I was only able to find a Roku 2 XD on ebay. I couldn't find one in a store or on Roku's web site. Evidently, Roku has stopped selling these.
Other than the above problems, I think Roku is a great deal.

bought mine about 3 months ago and I love it. Have gotten rid of HBO and Showtime because I don't really need those channels any longer

Beats the pants off the other devices

I've been using this Roku2 player for about 6 months after putting up with the Apple TV for about 6 months before that. This is far better than the Apple TV. The availability of content, the user interface, the connectivity, the remote, everything. I especially like the remote and its ability to work without having to point directly at an IR sensor. Occasionally I use a proprietary smart tv or Apple TV at a friend's house and I'm reminded of how good the Roku is in comparison. I would recommend the latest Roku with the most features, as the price is not much different. I have a Roku2, but I will get a Roku3 as soon as I can.

Needs to be re-booted all the time or shows will not load. Maybe a Hulu issue or Roku, I am not sure to be fair

Freezing up

This is our second Roku. Our first was a Roku LT that we have had for two years and we were so pleased we decided to add to a second TV. This product is so easy to use...my 4 year old has mastered it. The problem I am having with the Roku 2 is that it freezes up and has to be restarted at least once a day, sometimes twice a day. I'm learning online that it is somewhat common of Roku 2 from other users. We use it all day long in place of cable, but our use of Roku 2 is no different than that of our Roku LT. The LT has to be restarted but it is maybe once a month instead of once a day. It still functions great when it doesn't freeze up, so I am happy to have it and the benefits outweigh the headache for me but if a device freezing up is a problem for you...keep this in mind.
