I was having severe streaming issues with my not so old laptop. Cable provider always wants to blame some software whatever. I had already cancelled my Netflix account because nothing was enjoyable to watch. On the advice I got from some friends on Facebook, I went and bought at Roku2. It was super simple to set up and use and I really enjoy coming home from work and vegging for a half hour while I eat or even a movie once in a while. The interface is super simple and it worked with no hassles.

I have three Roku players in my house. I seldom watch cable TV. I love being able to watch more than one episode if I want to and the best feature is that it is commercial free.

So much video content, where to start? Use ROKU to watch networks not on your current Cable TV package or one could easily abandon conventional Cable Television or Satellite Service all together. So if you have had it with Dish or Viacom, etc. this could be your out. The earphone jack on the remote is great for watching TV while another is sleeping nearby (and audio goes with you from room to room). I'm getting old and it helps me hear dialog I would otherwise miss.

The Roku 2 leaves something to be desired. The screen goes purple and the cable has to be unplugged / replugged. The sound goes out. I don't know how many times we've wished we had just gotten an Apple TV.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Perfect Roku for Me

I've had my Roku XR forever, and it is still going strong (now hooked up to a TV in another room). However, I decided I wanted to upgrade to the Roku 3 for all the new features. I purchased a Roku 3 and tried to set it up. However, I have a 10 year old audio receiver with no HDMI ports. This meant that I could only use the Roku 3 without my surround sound. So I returned it to the store and exchanged it for the Roku 2. The Roku 2 has the composite (red, yellow, white) ports that I needed.
The Netflix user interface on the Roku 3 was pretty cool, so I am hoping that the Roku 2 will get that update. I don't currently need to use Netflix profiles, so that's personally not an issue for me. I was very happy to find out that I have access to my SHO Anytime account on the Roku 2 as my XR does not. I use the Roku app for both my Roku player, and it just prompts me to select which player I am currently using. Very easy.
I was surprised by how hot this player gets. It is always very hot to the touch as it is always on. I keep it unplugged when not in use for my own peace of mind. My XR is covered in ventilation holes. so it never get hot and stays plugged in.
The price of these is so much lower than when they first came out. My XR was double the price of the Roku 2. These players are such a great deal and have so many great features that I use on a daily basis. I am a Roku user for life.
