Great features

Every thing good except that from time to time the screen reverts to a small screen and I have to turn off and restart to go back to a regular screen. This has proved to be quite irritating. Also when using ear phones it eats up batteries quite quickly

Works well for that which I use it for. If I don't view it for a period of time, however, I have to 'reset' it by pulling connecting cord to TV then inserting again. It restarts / reinitializes then all seems fine and I am able to make a connection to viewing choices.

I had a Roku 2 originally. Bought it because it had 5.1 surround. When the three came out I bought it. You could tell the difference in picture quality immediately. However, no 5.1 surround which really makes a difference if your room is set up properly. So, I bought another Roku 2. Now I sacrifice visual quality to have surround sound.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

This item puts out too much heat and discolored my tv stand. Solid cherry and not cheep! A better design to dissipate heat is a must!

Getting better

I had the Roku HD and seemed to always have trouble with the remote and freezing. I was told it was my internet which only got 3 mbps. When I moved to a location where the internet gets 11 mbps I knew I should have no problems. The freezing dropped off considerably but the problems with the remote remained. "Click. one, two, three, four.......sometimes 10 seconds or more to respond. It was terrible and I was frustrated. However I have 3 blu ray dvd players and they are all terrible at streaming so I figured I would upgrade my roku. I am so glad I did! Now I have no problems with my roku! The remote is very responsive and no longer needs line of sight and amazingly I use the headphone jack all the time! I didn't know how often I went without watching TV because my husband needed quiet to do work. With the jack I no longer need to worry. I just plug in and he keeps going about his business. I ditched cable 5 years ago because I was so sick of paying for 500 channels that I never watch. Now, all of my favorite shows are on Hulu (except CBS which I stream from my computer) commerical breaks are taken from almost 5 minutes to 30 seconds. Not even enough time to hit the toilet. I watch what I want, when I want. Also having shows from other countries makes it better. I get to see shows I would never have access to in the 500 channels I was paying for with cable. Hulu and Netflix along with Amazon Prime covers me very well. I will never go back to cable or satellite again!
