When I bought my iPad, I was enticed by a sage-colored Bluetooth keyboard Zagg which really only functioned in a fixed horizontal position for keyboard use. Two long years later, I finally opted for the Defender and what a great cover it is, with its drop protection. Just FYI, my husband's Otter-protected iPhone fell off his motorcycle in Missouri. 30 miles down the road, he realized it was MIA, so used Find My Phone on my iPhone. We both used Defenders on our iPhones and knew how rugged the OtterBox protection was. Plugging the GPS coordinates into our Garmins, we found his phone in the middle of the highway in Sedalia, Missouri, with a couple of rubber skid marks across it, but iPhone untouched! What I like about this OtterBox, is that its accompanying stand can be used vertically or horizontally, and 'the stand' snaps right on to the OtterBox as additional shell protection. Beautifully designed and great protection. Thanks OtterBox — trustworthy protection.

RUN OVER BY A CAR

I was leaving work one day and I had my hands full. I placed my iPad on the top of my car and put the rest of my stuff in the back seat. After making several trips back and forth to load all my stuff in the car, I got in and drove away. I pulled out of the parking lot onto the highway and accelerated to highway speed (about 60 mph). I was looking in the rear view mirror when I saw something fly off the top of my car and hit the highway. I immediately realized what I had done and in a panic pulled over to the side of the highway. I jumped out and thought well I can at least get the pieces out of the road. I ran back all the way to where it had landed, and when I was about 10 feet away a car (4 door sedan some kind) ran it over. I finally got up to it and flipped it over (it landed screen down) and pressed the power button. It came right on and continues to work fine to this day. The hard plastic part of the case is messed up a little bit but all cosmetic damage really. Pretty amazing in my opinion!

I like Otterbox and my wife's phone and my phone have otterboxs on them. So we bought one for the iPad mini. While the case is very sturdy and I am sure it will protect the mini if dropped it is very hard to use the push button. You have to press very hard to use it. Also the screen cover isn't totally clear and looks fuzzy
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

It was very stiff and the home button is hard to use, you have to push down hard to get it to work. I love my cases for my iPhone and older iPad I got from OtterBox. But this one the screen protector shows dirt a lot and I am constantly cleaning it. At least if I drop it, the iPad will be safe.

Great to see that you’ve got strong faith in the drop protection of the OtterBox Defender! We’re sorry that you’re having a bit of trouble with the control buttons being a bit rigid, though. Generally, that will ease up a bit over time. Are you seeing a lot of dirt underneath the screen protector, or were you referring to having to clean the exterior of that piece? Not much we can do if it’s the elements attaching themselves to the outside of the case, but if you find an excess of dirt, dust and debris infiltrating the case, then we could definitely look at setting up a warranty claim to get you into a tighter fitting screen protector. Just give our friendly Otters a call at 1-855-688-7269 if we can help!

Love the case but like someone else the button you press to wake it up does get messed up pretty quick and the case has cracked by the button also.
