Review from a Gamer

Gamer here. Using this monitor right now while writing the review. I have tried many monitors of all sizes and resolutions, and even used a TV as a pc monitor for a while (big mistake). So let me be clear: This is the best I've ever tried. Some people are always not sure whether to choose an IPS panel for gaming, or a TN panel with 120hz or 144hz. Well, I know how I feel regarding that, I choose IPS always and forever. I bought an X-Rite EODIS3 i1Display Pro and it goes wonderfully with it. With an Nvidia GPU, I can raise the Digital Vibrance in the Nvidia Control Panel to get more vibrant colors, especially awesome for skin tones. Watching movies, tv shows, and gaming hasn't looked better. The Ultra wideness is amazing in FPS and Strategy Games. Price should be the only reason to make you think twice, so if it's not within your budget then start saving because I did, and I don't regret it.

A Monitor To Rule Them All!

don't really do a lot of reviews but I have been shopping around for a new monitor so I thought writing some reviews might help those in similar situations.
The very first thing is the amazing 3440x1440p resolution which equates to a 21:9 ultrawide gaming experience. My goal was to find a display that served two purposes...
1 being a triple monitor gaming experience, 2 being a display that would allow me to multitask with several fullscreen windows without having shrunk down screen so to increase my productivity as I am an avid youtube'r, podcaster, twitch'r.
My previous setup included 3x 23inch monitors all with seperate power adapters (bricks) and 3 hdmi/dvi cables. I have a very nice size desk but still having 6 cables for just my displays alone was annoying.
I guess my second pro would have to be the various connections on this thing! Another reason I went with this display was because my previous TV got hit by lightning and I wanted to replace that at the same time. I am a huge movie/tv show buff so I found out that if I were to watch any 2:40:1 or around that, type movies that it would display in native full screen on this 21:9 monitor, or very close to it. It produces almost the same size frame of a very wide movie to that of a 42-48inch TV if you don't include the black bars on top of the movie of a regular 16:9 large tv set. If that all makes sense, you know what I mean. It is a great set for a large bedroom to a small living room since the aspect ratio really makes your movie experience a larger picture than you would have had with a even larger but smaller aspect ratio TV.
Mountable: I installed it with an ergotron arm mount to my desk so i can move it where I want.
Built-in speakers - don't use very much since it's hooked to my PC but I do have a roku 3 hooked up so I can watch from my bed and changed the volume.
Headphone out if I want to hook it up some other way for audio output from other sources.
The design is beautiful, chrome'ish frame.
Controls are super easy with the joystick.
Very good customization options on the OSD.
The calibration software/splitscreen settings are great, even with non-widescreen videos.
I really cannot think of a product I have bought in the past 10 years I would recommend more than this insanely cool monitor. I've been impressed by some product upgrades in the past and I am a very geeky tech person. If you want to make your gaming experience a more fun, immersive one or just make your productivity level a smooth one, this is the perfect choice. This monitor really made my dreams come true!

Nice display works great with my Mac!

Very nice monitor looks great on my Mac. Only issue is light bleed on the bottom of the monitor, lower plastic bezel is just too tight and pinches the lcd. I own the LG 29EA93 also this screen seems massive in comparison.

Once you live with it, you can't live without it

The quality of this monitor is outstanding. For a working designer constantly immersed in two to five Creative Cloud apps at a time, the flexibility of a single ultrawide monitor is perfect.
This replaced a dual display setup that I've used for years and thought I'd never change, but where two monitors provide plenty of screen real estate, it's FIXED real estate. Not only do I have a lot more desk space now (real and virtual), I can make side-by-side windows any proportion I like. For a super-wide document (e.g. a billboard, or a long fold-out brochure) I can use the full screen and view the entire document at a humane size with no bezels to interfere. It's life-changing. Srsly.
Color and overall display quality are immaculate. It's astonishingly better than I expected, and like I said in the headline, now that I've lived with it for a while, I couldn't live without it.

Still better than Apple Display
on November 15, 2015

Well, I use it on MacBook (via Thunderbolt) and Windows Desktop PCs (Displayport).
Yes, my Display do have the bleeding as well - but to be honest, even I'm in graphic-design business, I actually do not care that much, since most of our graphics are bright anyway and the bleeding just appear worse to the dark colours displayed on the edges - where my toolbars are.
The footer of the device is ok in design... what i really like is the back. It is still plastic, sadly, but not the usual deep black other devices use. The back of my display faces into the room, so it is a joy not to have such dark area and light-consuming thing on the desk... it looks way more gentle.
At this point, I am a little bit disappointed that the new release changed that and was built with a black back.
... But the 21:9 provides a lot of room for getting work done. If you are confident with that format you will take your advantage of it.
Sadly, Thunderbolt and Displayport Devices are not able with the built-in Split-Screen function...
And what i really don't like, even enrages me... that the Audio-Volume-Control Buttons (on Mac) won't change the actual Volume. So I had to adjust Volume EVERY SINGLE TIME on the displays joystick or on the external Bose Soundbar connected via the Audio-Out jack.
Or connect the speakers directly on the headphone jack on the MacBook, but my intension was that a thunderbolt-Display should ease up the wire-mess.
Also, the delivered power on the USB-ports are pretty low... 2x 500mA and 1x1.000 mA.
Well, enough for most memory sticks or keyboards... but my external DVD-Device fails due energy consumption... after 4-10 fails, the DVD spins fast enough to work properly.... Since the display provides its power for USB-ports I can't understand why the power was measured that low.
There are some people out there, who want to charge a mobile or a tablet with these ports.
Well, at least the display port should provide a USB-signal... My PC do not recognise that but I guess since Thunderbolt depends on display port standards, it will actually work on this display - maybe my PC is not ready for that.

Much better than the apple 27"

Love the style and function. I use Citrix with several windows open and the software from LG giving split screen options is spot on for me.. Looks much better than my wife's apple panel and she really likes the hight to width vs her thunder bold display.. We are currently trying to sell her display and will buy another LG for her.

Superb replacement for two wide-gamut monitors
on February 19, 2015

I bought this monitor to replace two 27-inch wide-gamut monitors. The previous monitors used way too much power--200 watts total. I felt guilty every time I turned them on. This one hovers around 50 watts once calibrated. Plus, wide-gamut monitors work best with software built to take advantage...so Photoshop and Lightroom worked wonderfully, but Microsoft Office and other apps looked over-saturated.
The LG monitor exhibited far better out-of-the box color, grayscale, and uniformity than the other, more expensive monitors. It's bright, yet relaxing to the eye. You see no screen reflection once it's turned on.
I put it on a VESA mounting arm, so the lack of stand flexibility is not an issue for me. I love the USB hub/KVM switch; it really cleaned up my desktop. The Split Screen feature was a little gimmicky for me; I like software like WinSize2 that automatically sends each app to the onscreen place I choose.
Bottom line: Best monitor I've ever owned!

Excellent for viewing many HD pdf files. Great for college graduate work. Expensive, but the many options make it all the better. I would like to see thunderbolt be able to see both computer screens ? At this point it seems only one screen is is viable.
