Wish Rich Capture in the Denim update will come to Lumia 1020

The CPU is a bit slow for the new Nokia Camera features, so they are not available on the 41MP camera. That's a pity.
Also, the battery is a bit weak. Else, a great phone!

Reccomended, with reservations

I had a Lumia 800 before the 1020 so I came to it used to the tiles sytem. The 1020 was the logical progression BUT I had a problem after 3 months, dealt with under warranty in that the handset froze totally. When I returned it to store I was told that the only mains charger to be used is the charger in the box - not made clear in the instructions at all, plus I have to rely on charging my phone in my car. The battery gets unpleasantly hot when charging & during calls, plus it has needed a soft reset (hold on/off button & volume down button together for about 10 seconds) several times on the handset. Currently if the battery runs dead I am having to reset date & time each time. Not convenient. Overall though I like the product & the functions, the camera is great but can't replace a "real" camera IMHO. I pay for my own handset but use the calendar & notes function a lot for work, & I like the fact the calendar backs up to the calendar on my Windows 8 laptop.

Incredible Camera - what do you mean its a phone?

This phone is outstanding. I mean that in the literal sense that there is not a single phone on the market that quite achieves what the 1020 does, but that is not always a great thing. The mai thing you need to know is that the 1020 has the best camera on any smartphone. Full stop. Having said that, due to the groundbreaking camera, a lot of the rest of the phone tends to be forgotten and sadly those are the parts where the phone falls down. First off is the physical size and bulk. For a phone with a 4.5 inch screen, the 1020 is massive. Not just in size, but in the feel in the hand and weight as well, culminating in a devive that in some ways is harder to carry around than modern 5 inch+ flagships! The processor and screen resolutio were not particularly note worthy even at its inception, so two years down the line they really do the device no favours and make the overall experience rather frustrating. Even simple things like checking Facebook (not google+ as there still isn't a decent app for that) take much longer than on newer devices and you sometimes feel like the windows phone version is an after thought compared to the android or iOS alternatives, despite some industry leading inclisions courtesy of Nokia/Microsoft. Apps like the Lumia Camera, despite Nokia and Microsoft's best efforts doesn't work flawlessly (I actually lost a selfie that I took when meeting one of my idols after a concert) as is abhorrently slow, despite being excellently designed and genuinely incredible when it works, end up being slightly infuriating and instead depress and annoy as much as they amaze.
All I all, anyone looking at this phone should wait until the 1030 is announced/released. A camera this good deserves better hardware/software to back it up, both of which will hopefully be fixed in time. Having said that, if you don't want to need to bring a compact camera around then do consider it, as the camera really is THAT good, but don't expect the world from the rest of the device.

Love the phone, miss the iPhone apps.

I have had this phone for about 6 months now. I upgraded from an Apple iPhone 4S. I love the phone. Live tiles are awesome, it is quick and responsive. The screen resolution looks great. The camera takes amazing pictures. But, I miss the apps. The Windows app store has most of the apps I like to use. But many of them lack some of the functionality of the iPhone version. Some just aren't available. I hate to say it, but I will probably go back to an iPhone 6 when i get to upgrade. If I could keep my Windows phone but have better apps, i would pick it over an iPhone every time. I will definitely miss the live tiles and the home screen.

Awesome camera, but Microsoft Services Lag Behind Android & iOS

First off, I love Windows Phone, or rather the idea of it. The camera on the Lumia 1020 is superb. You wont find a better shooter in the smartphone world (save for the Nokia 808).
Windows Phone 8.1 and the Modern UI are some of the things that make this platform awesome. The UI is so unique and customizable compared to other platforms that each phone will feel tailor made by the user to reflect their personality. This is what initially grabbed me to Windows Phone, and it still something that keeps me here (for now).
But, be warned. Microsoft has been testing my patience by its lack of support for its own platform. Microsoft's own suit of apps like Skype, Office, and OneNote are a joke compared to their iOS and Android counterparts. If you depend on Microsoft services, you are definitely better served on competing platforms. I can't recommend Windows Phone for you.
But wait there's more, even with the newest update to Windows Phone 8.1, the platform has regressed in some ways that made it unique in the 7.0 days. For one, the hubs that made 7.0 great as a social device has been stripped of that functionality in favor of app centric usage. Instead of updating and viewing your social networks from one centralized location (brilliant# it is how hobbled as an app launcher for their respective apps #not brilliant#. Not to mention Microsoft's own Xbox, music and video apps are serviceable but still users complain of poor performance. In the case of Xbox integration the gaming is sub par compared to the competition. Something that Microsoft could leverage to its advantage like gaming is a complete waste on Windows Phone and I wouldn't bet on it changing any time soon.
Overall, this platform is great in some forms. My Lumia 1020, even with last year's specs still runs great and hardly ever lags or crashes. If that. Low end phones don't feel low end because Windows Phone is well optimized. That's a blessing, you wont be compromising on performance.
But looking at the big picture, the way Microsoft has managed Windows Phone it begs to question if they can improve the platform and make it a priority to keep it up to par with iOS and Android regarding their own services.
Windows Phone has disadvantages in apps and manufacturers. The one thing, their own services, that should give their own#!) platform a leg up on the competition is nonexistent. And that's a shame because that shouldn't be and it will definitely test your patience with this platform. It has mine.

I had a stroke several years ago and couldn't use a phone because the dexterity wasn't there. The icons are much bigger than the android so their easier to see and just like Win 8 the're self explanatory. The glance Feature is much better than chasing small hidden buttons. Overall it's a great phone and I love it.

In the start I thought its battery is very poor, but once its battery reached almost 10% I did a hard reset of my device and then charged it to 100% and didn't plug off from charger from at least 30 mins. After that Its battery became very good and effective and right now it is 25% and since last charge is 16 hours and 34 minutes and still 5 hours and 46 minutes to go and its almost 30 mins remaining to go to bed.
Give your battery a little bit of time. Approximately 1 week or 2 weeks. After that you will feel the difference but dont forget to hard reset your phone once a week. hard reset is done by pressing volume down button and power button simultaneously for 10 sec.
Pros: Personal, chatting on whatsapp, facebook, tumblr, weave news reader, its huge 41 mp camera
