Great Looking and Reliable Refrigerator

This refrigerator has been in service now for six months with no problems.
When we were shopping earlier this year for a new refrigerator, it quickly became a dreadful experience. Most of the 20 cubic foot types are dull boxes with squeaky bins and cheap shelves until you get well into the four figures. In fact, we had given up.
Then we saw this unit in an appliance store, and the graceful curve on the top, (though the actual top is flat), the older GE logo, and the quality of the shelves and bins inside caused us to be really impressed.
The two tempered glass shelves are quite sturdy, and don't wobble or sag. The bins are large enough to hold all of the fruits and vegetables even though there are only two of them. When coupled with the very deep door shelves, we have never had issues with internal space. The bins still do not squeak.
As to the freezer section, we did not order the icemaker option; our needs are satisfied with traditional ice trays. We purchased some narrow plastic bins at the restaurant supply store to act as frozen meat organizers in the full width pull out tray. Storage space in the freezer is very good. It can be difficult to pull out the sliding bottom tray to its full length, but the bins we installed offer ready access even if the tray cannot be pulled out all the way. It would be nice if there was a full width door shelf, but this has not been a problem for us.
Yes, the refrigerator makes some noise, but it is not objectionable. What is even more important is that it is still running quite reliably after six months.
The styling is somewhat unique these days with the crown top and horizontal door pulls, but it is really quite attractive when installed. Since we ordered the white model, our magnets stick to the steel exterior. Believe it or not, it's actually an enjoyable experience to use this refrigerator!
In summation, this refrigerator is a good value even at the list price when compared to the dreary competition. If you can find a discounted price for this refrigerator, I would highly recommend that you not hesitate any longer if this size of refrigerator is adequate to your needs. You really cannot do better than this model, I believe.

Bought this appliance about 6 months ago. Has a very unassuming look -no fancy bells and whistles. Quite, dependable (so far)!

Great quality & STYLE

We had a hard time letting go of our original 1954 vintage fridge but we desperately needed more space. We were reluctantly looking at the trendy modern stainless steel fridges and were surprised to stumble onto this! It fits with our antique/vintage furnished home very nicely. Not only that but the quality is really great too. It keeps things nice and cold and with a lot of space! The only downside is that I wish they would have made the whole surface of the fridge smooth like the front is. The sides are
textured like a fridge from the 80's....even so... it's a great fridge and we love it!

We just bought our refrigerator but it is awesome. The look of it is so nice and simple but elegant. It also runs so nice! We have other GE products and love every single one of them!

Most Affordable Retro looking fridge

This is a great simple refrigerator. It has retro styling at a reasonable price. There are two reasons I'm not giving it 5 stars. One, the sides of the refrigerator are textured like old or cheap fridge's are. The front is smooth, so if your fridge is going to be placed where the sides aren't seen or on display, it's no big deal. But I feel like GE should have made the sides smooth as well, or at least make it noticeable in the pictures. Second, it's quite loud. It's not 'running' all the time, but when it is, it's louder than our previous 18 year old fridge. Although, our house is only about 1,200sq ft. Maybe you wouldn't hear it if you lived in a bigger house and your living room and bedroom were further away from it.
I guess I do have two suggestions for GE. The first as mentioned above is to install smooth sides of the fridge (not textured) and the other would be for the handles to be not brushed stainless steel. A polished stainless steel hardware would make it more true to the era.

This refrigerator fits into a space that was smaller than many of the new refrigerators being made. Please continue to make quality refrigerators of a reasonable size. Many of us live alone and neither want, need, or have room for a large capacity refrigerator.

Perfect first fridge!

My fiance and I purchased this fridge after the one that was here when we moved it stopped getting cold. We wanted a fridge that would last us through our first years of moving into our first home and eventually having children, and I'm certain we got more than we were asking for with this! It's *so* beautiful - I love the handles, the bottom freezer, and the rounded top, it make it look like it was taken from the '50s and reborn! It also got cold in a matter of no time after plugging it in, and it's on wheels, so I can actually clean behind the fridge without having to set a whole day to do it. It's got HUGE shelves and drawers, and they're so easy to clean and KEEP clean. I'm looking forward to spending the next decade or two with this beauty!
