Wanted DDR 5 and M.2 slots. This board far exceeded my expectations. Easy to set up Bios and Intel Extreme Tuning Utility works great to get the extra performance on benchmark tests. Raid M.2 980 Pro drives unbelievably fast loading programs and large files.
I had no major issues with building using this motherboard.
Pros: It's silver, well laid out, no bent pins, thermal transfer material for M2, posted the first time, provided a middle header for attaching the case buttons to the MB
Cons: The one screw to left side of the middle of the board is a little tricky to get in there and Windows 11 doesn't want to recognize the WiFi/LAN unless you provide the driver at the beginning of the install. There seems to be some conflict between ASUS RGB driver and Gigabyte's Control Center, but that's not definitive in my mind. The TPM header thing was a little confusing at first, but you don't actually need a discreet TPM device. It's reading my 6200 memory as 4800, so I need to figure out what the deal with that is.
My EKWB CPU water block fit in there perfectly and it recognized my i9-13900k even before updating the BIOS. Updating the BIOS requires updating the Intel ME that requires the chipset driver for Intel ME be installed **first**. Download the Intel Management Engine Interface *and* the Intel Serial IO chipset drivers and install them, *then* you'll be able to use the Intel ME update tool that allows you to do the BIOS update. That was fun to figure out. After the BIOS update (0809), it didn't like the fact I didn't have a CPU fan connected and it wouldn't go past it until I went into the BIOS to tell it to ignore the CPU fan. After that, it was great.
None of it was insurmountable with just a little research, but knowing those things going in will help you get up and running quicker. It's the cost of being a little ahead of the hardware/software being fully tested in the real world together.
Pleasing look and operates per advertisement. Major difference compared to my older gigabyte MB. Had it professionally installed by my computer guy. Faster internet, faster graphics faster startup ETC. This was a fantastic upgrade to my system and would suggest it to anybody who has a 5 year or older mb
