My New Sourdough Love

After years of mixing sourdough by hand, I can honestly say the Ooni Halo Pro Spiral Mixer has completely changed my baking life.
It is beautifully designed, incredibly well thought out, and built like a workhorse. The spiral mixing action develops gluten beautifully while handling my dough gently, resulting in stronger, silkier dough and consistently gorgeous loaves.
What impressed me most is how easy it is to use. It’s quick, powerful, and heavy-duty without feeling intimidating. Every detail seems to have been designed with the baker in mind.
Instead of spending my energy mixing dough, I can spend that time doing what I love most—teaching, creating, and enjoying the process. For anyone serious about sourdough, whether you’re baking for your family or teaching others as I do, this mixer has been a wonderful investment.
The Ooni Halo Pro didn’t replace the joy of making sourdough~it simply gave me more time to enjoy the parts I love most.
I absolutely love it and would recommend it without hesitation!
Near perfect dough machine - Strength plus design is unbeatable

I have moved through every stage of pizza dough making: by hand, overnight, kitchenaid mixer, changing dough hooks, a commercial bulky mixer that worked but lacked user friendly features (tiltable and removable dough hook for easy cleaning), and FINALLY Ooni designed the *nearly* perfect dough machine. The size, height, depth, and capacity is excellent (not big enough for professional needs, but big enough for a double batch of pizza dough to feed family on a weekend). The motor is definitely strong enough, timer and variable speed are exactly right. My favorite part is the removable spiral hook feature, due to the tilt-back top, which allows for bowl removal and easy cleaning of everything. The only thing after all that excellence that should have been designed better is the safety/splash guard, which fits over the bowl. It is cheap plastic, and the lid doesn't even stay up. So when you put it on, and want to raise it up to add an ingredient, it keeps falling down. So you need to either manually remove it, or get a friend to help, so you can use your hands to add the ingredient. This is such a useless and unnecessary design flaw, that it's surprising this wasn't better thought through, given the high price of the dough machine and the stellar design and function of everything else. Other reviewers have noted this same feature flaw as well.
I got this for myself on Father's day as we have been making a lot of pizza and our KitchenAid has been smoking, a lot. . . I had done SO MUCH research on mixers and chose the Halo because I can take the bowl off to clean, it's got really good bits, and it looks fantastic on my counter.
I haven't been disappointed at all. The pizza dough comes out brilliantly AND I've been making bread with it as well, which has been coming out amazingly.
I know what this is good at: dough. I haven't tried to make cookies or whipcream or anything, just dough, and a lot of it. the thing is excellent. If you're on the fence, do yourself a favor and have some fun!
Does a fantastic job with dough. I have made loaves and loaves of bread and everyone has turned out above expectations. Awesome tool for the kitchen. It does not replace the versatility of the kitchenaid, but is outstanding with doughs. I keep the two side by side.
I was so excited to order this Ooni Halo Pro mixer! I received it toward the end of the month of May. I like being able to mix 4 loaves of sourdough at once, but when I finish I have unmixed flour in the bottom of the bowl around the outside rim. I always start by putting water in the bowl first then I add I 500 grams per loaf of Kirkland organic bread flour in top of the water and mix that for 2 minutes on 25%. I allow the shaggy dough to rest for 45 minutes then add my measured starter and mix again for 2 minutes. After that I add 10 g salt per loaf then complete with mixing until I get a mice windowpane. Invariably when I dump my dough from the bowl into my proofing box there is a ring of un mixed flour in the base of the bowl toward the outside of the bowl. I have started using a spatula to get it to mix that area but with that much dough in the bowl it’s difficult for an elderly lady to do. Shouldn’t be necessary if the spiral dough hook is operating properly. The breaker bar is VERY difficult to remove. I often have a big struggle or have to tap it hard with a wooden spoon. I ususally have to wait for my son to help with it. There is also an issue with clear lid not holding open so I can add ingredients during mixing. Instead the lid falls closed but not all the way closed. it sits about ¼ inch above the bowl edge. The whisk attachment is ineffective to whip whipping cream or beating egg whites with only one small whisk. It takes forever to get peaks. All other mixers I have seen or tried either have 2 whisks one huge whisk. The silicone beater is adequate but I have only used it one time.
I purchased the Pro mixer to up my game and volume of baking from two loves a week to ten. I appreciate the engineering, controls and ease of cleanup. I have found some dry flour at the bottom of the bowl after mixing but its easy to release and keep going. The spiral mixer for size, gearing and overall use is exactly what I was looking for. Worth the money!
