Couldn’t be happier with this purchase. At 67 years old, my days of hand mixing are now behind me. Makes the process much more consistent and repeatable.
After hand mixing bread dough for years, I decided to tackle the artisan sourdough levain only leaven breads. Many frisbee loaves before getting Halo Pro Spiral Mixer and Wow it all came together. Thanks Ooni.
I'm an amateur home baker and there is a learning curve here. It's been trial and error trying to calculate the friction factor for my DDT calculation so after ten batches of sourdough found I had to drop my water temp five degrees to keep my final dough temp between 75-78 degrees. I've searched on Facebook, Instagram, and the internet for tips from other bakers using the Ooni Halo Pro and that has been very helpful. Maurizio Leo author of The Perfect Loaf had some very helpful information. King Arthur Baking had a comprehensive article on their website "Determining the friction factor in baking" and that really helped. I'm recording my process for all bakes until I get consistent results. I'm not there yet but hopefully soon. I have tested other bread dough mixers but they got sent back because they were either too hard to use or a nightmare to clean. I really appreciate the Ooni Halo Pro. It is a dream by comparison.
This is a great mixer. It makes a beautiful dough. It is so easy and I love that there is no rocking of the machine while making a large batch of dough. We love it so much we are using it for my granddaugthers birthday party. I never thought I would have the courage to make pizza for a large party.
I was very hesitant to spend so much money on a mixer. I am someone who makes a fair amount of sourdough breads. My friend got an Ooni and couldn’t say enough good about it. I did so much research and decided to go for it. The process of dump the ingredients in, set and turn on, come back to perfect dough is unbelievable. I don’t have all that sticky clean up and wow does it save time. I can literally do one stretch and fold after it’s been mixed and it makes the most wonderful loaf. Perfect gluten development. I haven’t used the other attachments yet, but for dough…it’s amazing.
It’s really loud. It’s made of 99% plastic. The bowl locking plate is plastic that’s supposed to lock a metal bowl, the knobs to secure the hook and bar are plastic, etc - metal and plastic don’t play well together. The hook and bar are cheap and thin.
