Opt for traditional charcoal

I had a terrible experience with this product. I bought the Kingsford Match Light Charcoal for ease in barbecuing, but despite stacking the briquets in a pyramid, not even three full matchbooks could get them to light. I ended up adding lighter fluid in order to get the flames to take. Needless to say, I would not recommend this product.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Hello. We’re very sorry to hear that you had difficulty getting your Kingsford Match Light Charcoal to light. The most common reasons for slow lighting, include lack of oxygen (make sure that you put the briquettes in a pyramid to assist with air circulation and make sure that all of the grill’s air vents are completely open during lighting). Also, windy or damp weather conditions can make it challenging for the charcoal to light, as well as the briquettes or the charcoal bag being damp. Lastly, waiting too long after placing the briquettes on the grill will cause the lighter fluid on the briquettes to evaporate. Won't light

I've always used gas and decided to try the match light. WOW! After 20 minutes of trying to get it to light still no fire. Back to gas and a few bucks down the tube. I guess if I wanted to use the lighter fluid it would work but that's not what it's designed for.

Lit immediately and cooked hamburgers great

Had a mother daughters weekend at a cabin this weekend and didn't want to deal with lighter fluid. The match light charcoal worked just great. Cooked hot dogs one night, hamburgers the next 2 nights. All good!

The only ones that light quickly, Originals don't!

I used to use original Kingdford for about 40 years. The last 10 years it seems the composition of wood used in the original blend has changed. We used to use newspaper or paper plates to light up the standard charcoals from Kingsford. But they don't light quickly or at all. When they did light, they would light unbalanced and it would take longer to cook. I use the two zone cooking method. Using the Match Light version lights fast and evenly. I prefer the original but it doesn't work for us. So Match Light is what we been using the last 10 years mostly. Sometimes I may add oak wood to extend the cooking. I have not experienced any unpleasant taste after cooking using the Match Light. But I know there is lighter fluid in it. So we don't BBQ as often as we used too with the original blend of Kingsford.
I would recommend this to a friend!

I bought some of this product and it would not light and didn't get very hot or stay hot very long I have always bought this and up until the last few months it worked great now not so much would I recommend to a friend no because it isn't worth the price or saving time since it doesn't burn well or get how enough. I am very disappointed in the product and probably won't be buying it anymore since it has go downhill. I cook with gas all the time that is what I love about charcoal is the different taste but don't get that anymore.

Ruined Our July 4th Barbecue

We set up the charcoal in the grill. It lit beautifully but would not get hot. Even after 2 hours of burning it still was not hot. Had to dump the whole grill of charcoal and go to the store and get regular charcoal and lighting fluid and start all over again. Will not buy Kingsford again.

Before 2016 I used the product several hundreds of times, and I would of gave the product a five star review. Now it is extremely difficult to light the charcoal, which is the reason for the one star review.

Wouldn't light with a fireplace lighter. Last couple of times I've used the matching version it hasn't lit very well.
