A great sequel...

The Last Of Us: Part 2, is it worth the $80? This game has been, criticized for its story. I find that Naughty Dog, had done well explaining previous questions in the first game many fans had unsolved. The game is controversial but, its controversial story suits the survival horror experience that complies with reality. I would recommend this game due to its stunning graphics and its cinematic scenes. I will say that it's best to play the first game of "The Last Of Us" to understand the story. If you don't care to play the first game, then this sequel will still make it somewhat understandable. So back to the question, is it worth the money? If you are looking for the latest survival horror masterpiece. I say yes and, you shouldn't hesitate unless you aren't a fan of survival horror games.

Beautiful game

I expected nothing less after experiencing the first game, but wow did they deliver! Emotionally challenging, heart wrenching, immersive, just an incredibly beautiful and detailed world with characters and challenges I understand and emphasize with. It was worth the wait for this amazing sequel.

I love games that can carry this much emotional weight and still have fun and exciting gameplay. The developers knew what aspects of the storyline and gameplay we loved from the first one and carried that over to Part II and made them so much better. The UI for crafting and meleeing was intuitive and fun. I see the one-star reviews and I can see where they are coming from but how boring would this game be if the developers decided to use the seven years they had only to keep the tonality of the first game for Part II. I think the developers expect us to grow with the characters. I think it's important to understand that although we have the main characters, objectively there are no real heroes in this game. However, everyone, even the characters we naturally hate/don't like or root for are the heros of their own storyline. And in the context of an apocalypse, what we can easily deem as morally wrong in the present become questions with deep and rich answers. The game was beautiful. The graphics were seriously unparalleled. The game had it's sweet moments which were amazing to experience, but the game was not without its faults. It should have spent more time with certain characters. And one moment in particular (it's clear what moment I'm referring to if you've played the game) felt cheap and it felt like losing something you had but never got to truly enjoy. I think what the developers were aiming for with that cut scene is that there is no true happy ending for anyone. Life will have its sweet moments, but at large, it is ugly. There's no real hope for a better future and it will always be about survival beyond anything else. Especially since Joel escaped with Ellie from the hospital in the first game, humanity's literal only hope. Furthermore, when we switched POVs I was angry. The time they used for that could have been used so much better for other relationships. But the theme of Part II is VERY different from Part I. It's not so much about the father-daughter relationship and the lengths they would go for each other but rather the cyclical, gruesome and unsatisfying nature of revenge. The approach I took with this game is the same attitude I go into when watching a film. And most times a happy ending isn't enough. A happy ending is what feels cheap and the developers made bold moves that I believe were completely worth it. Life is not a tidy story and the typically-American bias towards optimism is not reflective of a good, rich, fulfilling ending. After all with so many hours of gameplay, it better be fulfilling. The ending that many would have preferred in this case would only give the comforting illusion of closure and in turn, would completely negate the situation at large and the emotions and concepts that plague relationships in this post-apocalyptic world.

Story is weird but still a masterpiece

one of the best games ever, this game is a masterpiece in it's on way. There is a lot of controversies lately about it, but people does not understand that this is a game that dis not have a goal to be as good as the first one. It was much more focused about gameplay and making a game that is next-gen already. The story is surely not as strong as the first one, because the first one is already a perfect story, so it's hard to beat the success of the first one. Also, part 2 is meant to be a game with anger and revenge as seen in a series like a Netflix series. surely it's a game and it's hard to tell a long story through a game. But I think the did a great job and the game is worth buying despite the negative comments.

I could live with the story but forcing me to play as a character I loath for half the game is totally unacceptable! I ended up completing the game but I very seriously considered not continuing and uninstalling at one point. If the original game didn't exist, I would feel differently and would probably give this 5 stars as a stand alone game. But the original does exist and I honestly wish I hadn't played this sequel.

Great game, from a fan of the first TLOU

Big fan of the first TLOU, and I was not disappointed by the part 2. The story can get a bit hard to follow sometimes, but if you jump into it with an open mind and really try to understand the plot, it just makes sense. Some fans will be frustrated by a couple events in the game, but I like that Naughty Dog tried to do something different and not just repeat what they did in the first game. The gameplay itself is a lot better and the ennemies can be quite challenging on the hardest difficulty. It's really an immersive game and I would strongly recommend it to anyone who owns a PS4 !
