What Could Have Been

This game is top three for best looking on the PS4, of that there is almost no debate. It also has some truly awesome settings to mess around with, things that no other game does. Lastly, there is some excellent gameplay parts, such as level design and AI strategy. Credit must be given where it is due. But that is where the praise stops.
Gameplay can become quite stale as it really isn't much of a change from the previous game, which released in 2013. For a game to have the length of time of development and the budget this one had, much more could have been done. But the real issue is the story. For a game all about story, this is some of the worst in the modern era of gaming, which is such a shame since the writers made something brilliant in the first one. Overall, just wait to see if TLOU III is any better. This can be skipped. Or at least bought on huge discount.

Good Gameplay, Trash Story

From a technical standpoint, the game is excellent. Slick graphics, engaging gameplay, and intelligent AI. However, if you are in any way a fan of storytelling, then this will be a deal breaker for you.
While I think taking a risk like Naughty Dog did with bold story line upheavals is worth doing, it must be done with proper care and respect for the audience. ND has thrown those virtues out the window with this game. This was a clear break from proper story telling in order to try write something "unique" for the sake of being different. The archetypal story of the first one struck such a deep cord with the players because it was archetypal. There are ways to tell dark and harsh stories that will upset the fan base but still keep their respect, but this is not that way.
I hope for Part III Naughty Dog goes back to the brilliant story telling of the first game, otherwise I fear they will have killed this series.

This is another masterpiece by Naughty Dog. It completes the original story which itself had many morally ambiguous story lines. The themes around vengeance and retribution are thought provoking. The story will stay with me for a long time. Of course the gameplay and graphics are awesome as one expects from Naughty Dog.
If you loved the first one, you need to play this.

Brutal, gut-wrenching, and beautiful

I finished this within a few days. Ignore the bigots and make your own judgments. I see why people feel it’s polarizing— it’s meant to be. This game takes you on an emotional journey, buckle in.
Note, this game should really come with a trigger warning; it’s gratuitously violent, and touches on some serious mental health issues. Wouldn’t recommend this for young folks or those sensitive to explicit violence.

amazing game, and beautifully put together! everyone saying the game has an agenda are clueless and have nothing better to do but make up in their fragile sad little minds that this game has some big agenda, which it doesn't at all. The story telling is perfect, dark, gripping, and amazingly immersive. teaching us about forgiveness, and the pain revenge can do to people.

Play it for yourself

Some of the negative reviews are biased, not to spoil, but you have to play as another character for about 10 hours in this game, this character did some bad things hence the displeasure of playing as them. You really have to play it to understand the emotions and philosophy and overall message of the game, this game has a few imperfections, but what game doesn't?
However, on the good side, everything from TLOU 1 was upgraded in this game:
- Best graphics on the ps4 (that I have seen so far)
- Challenging, realistic, and intelligent stealth mechanics
- Gun upgrades and character upgrades are enhanced and improved
- Map sizes and exploration are much bigger (looting)
- The overall appeal of darkness and horror (this game can get pretty intense at times)
- Music (let's be real, TLOU has the best soundtrack on all of PlayStation)
- Improved accessibility makes it possible for anyone to play this game (difficulty, colour, controls, display, size, etc etc)

Visceral representation of a post pandemic world

I'm a huge fan of The Last of Us game, and was super excited when this was announced. This game takes the same genre and pushes it a multitude ways.
The combat is much more refined with more verticality and better AI who try to flank you. The enemies are a little repetitive whether you're looking at humans or infected.
The story has certain missteps but when you look at the full game, it comes full circle if you sit down and think about it. It does drag on through the middle and at the end of the game.
I would recommend this to a friend!
