The toaster does not toast evenly. One side of the bread or bagel is burnt and other side is barely toasted.

I wish the slide that you lock in would connect better than it is !
Sometimes it takes pulling the connection to toast does not hold at the bottom to get the heating element to work!
We might need to return and get a replacement!
