As a fan of VW, this set is great. I already owns the T1 Camper, this one is a great addition. It does have 873 more parts, and weights 789 more grams (1840g total, without the two chairs, no surf).
The building technics were great. I did not see such technics in the other sets I build. Every part is different. I truly enjoyed building it.
For the pros, I definitely like the look, the sliding door is amazing, and the level of details inside the van is great.
For the cons, the door for the engine is really difficult to open. If you don't want to lose the knob, rather have to put some glue.
Hinges for the cabin doors are not great, but it does the job. To consider the room and how to integrate them too. I think the designer did a great job. If you compare the look of the T1 and the T2, you can see the building technics (and availability of new parts) improvement between the two generation of sets.
A great addition to this set would have been a roof rack. Sadly it's missing.
Reading all the reviews, I think we have to keep in mind this set is part of the Creator Expert. Meaning it's not intended for children, but more advanced people, like adults. During the build, I had no issue of elements not staying in position. It is a sturdy build, beside the engine door and the front bumper (which falls down easily depending how you handle the van).
Conclusion:
This is an Expert level. This is not for kids to play with. Great addition to the T1 camper. Amazing for display. Great features. Missing a roof rack, front bumper and engine door may require a better design.
The biggest complain, why does Lego use so many different colors for the parts in the Expert (Creator Expert Theme) sets ? It make it too easy to build, and the designer did not realize it was messing up with the inside of the van look. For newer models, Lego, please pay attention to this.
As a lover of most things Lego, I was super excited when this model became available for purchase. I started to build it and around Bag 6 things started going down hill. Like most reviewers, I find the engine door in the back to be extremely finicky. All other doors/hinged parts are EXTREMELY fragile. I had to finagle the hood to get it to sit in place correctly and there is still a slight gap when I "close" it. It is quite nice to look at, but my children - simply by touching it - have already broke it several times... and it is NOT easy to go back and fix. Overall, the value for the cost is not there. Not to mention that one piece was missing from one of my bags (luckily we have plenty of spare parts at home that I was able to find what I needed). Unfortunately, I would not recommend this build.

We're happy to hear you didn't have to stop building despite the missing piece. If you give us a shout on LEGO.build/Service-BV, we'd love to find out which one it was to make sure it doesn't happen again. We'll then also be able to pass all your feedback on in detail to the right team.
I had every problem mentioned by previous reviewers. I hope that Lego reads the reviews and starts a refund program for those of us who are disenchanted with the T2 Camper. Every time I try to repair one section, another part falls away, this is no way to enjoy Lego.

Oh no! That doesn't sound like the experience we'd like you to have. If you could please share all the details with our team on LEGO.build/Service-BV, we'll be able to let our quality team know.
One wrong pressure, the set falls apart. A lot of turning flipping made it so easy for the sections to give away. The build was so unenjoyable, I gave up after opening Bag 8. This has to be one of the most embarrassing sets LEGO has released to date. It’s a pity because I really loved the color of the blocks and some sections had amazing retro color combinations

Oh no! We’re sorry you’re having some difficulty keeping the set together while building. We always test and retest our toys to make sure that they’ll hold up when they’re built exactly as shown in the instructions. If your set ever seems like it's not very sturdy, the best thing to do is double-check your build. Sometimes there may be a piece just a little off from where it should be. You’ll also want to make sure that all the pieces are pressed tightly together.
If you'd like a hand troubleshooting the build, or if you find that any pieces aren't holding together as they should, feel free to give us a shout at LEGO.build/Service-BV.
I was very excited about this van and got it the day it came out! Overall, it is a great addition to my collection. The build process was a little clunky and there were a few times I had to go back because while the logic was clear the parts seemed not to go smoothly in. I also wish it was more fun and had a little more details inside. The set feels more focused on the car functionality vs. fun play. overall, I would recommend it though.
This set is in one word awful. I have assembled dozens of Lego vehicles including Technic and more than 300 Sets and this is by far the worst one. The model is EXTREMELY fragile when attempting to get pieces tight. The side panels, the engine door ( and placement) the engine itself is insanely poor in it fragility ( especially as tight an area your forced to place it in) the engine itself doesn't snap in place, you need to put 1x8 tile to hold it in. The "bumpers" dont touch them heavier than a pinky or will fall off/ or apart. The only positive I can say is my local lego resale store will give me about 75% of its price, which it going there very soon. I am embarrassed to have spent that much money for this, and display this in my collection
