I bought this unit 6 months ago and it stopped working today .the buttons were very hard to push and th3door closes hard ... very loud when wo4king as well.,, I opened the door to put on a bowl and when I shut the door it buzzed before I even started and it just died. ,, I don’t have my receipt as my previous microwave lasted 7 years and thought it might last the same ,, when talking to the store they said they couldn’t help me ..I would not recommend this to anyone..
I don't think microwaves have changed in the last 20 years or so. Does what it is supposed to do. Easy to use, and looks good in the kitchen. Others wrote about having trouble with it sliding around - I do not have that problem. Not a big issue but the lines across the window make it hard to see the food. To me this is not a big thing but might be to those who want to watch it cook (thus the 4 stars).
The quality is way down from their previous versions. The 1st one I brought home stopped working(carousel) within 24 hours. I exchanged two days ago and this one just did the same thing. I unplugged it and plugged it back in and it works again....for now.
16 years have brought no innovation in basic Panasonic microwaves, only ghastly, deplorable cost reductions which show a complete disdain for brand-loyal customers.
This thing takes up exactly the same amount of space as a budged-priced 2004-vintage Panasonic Inverter. Yet, the platter diameter is more than 1" smaller: less than 12.5 inches versus 13.5 in the 2004 model.
The light bulb is still incandescent, in 2021! The way it is situated next to the tiny light aperture, together with the black grille on the back of the door, results in a total inability to see the food while it is cooking, unless it's night time and you turn off the kitchen light.
The power cord has been cheapened. It is now this thick round thing, with a straight plug. The 2004 model had a tape-like, flexible cord, with an angled plug. Because of the straight plug, I cannot push the microwave into the microwave recess; it is sitting right on the edge. The 2004 model went in two more inches.
The "Quick Min" button has been replaced with an idiotic "Quick 30". You now need four keystrokes to generate 2 minutes, which means you're better off typing the 3 keystrokes instead of 2-0-0. Other than that, they have not improved the firmware at all, in spite of lots of opportunities. For instance, "quick 30" could combine with digits that have been entered. Say you put in 45 seconds. Before hitting start, "quick 30" could add to that, making it 1:15. It's still not allowed. In the same 16 years, we have seen the rise of smartphones, LED lights, high definition TV, online streaming services, 64 bit desktop computing with many gigabytes of RAM, solid-state drives, bluetooth, high bandwidth mobile (LTE, ...).
The 2004 model could be opened just by pulling the door handle. The new model has that idiotic rectangular latch button on the right. If you're right-handed, you're holding your microwavable item in your right hand, so now you have to hit that button with the left, instead of just grabbing a door handle.
Basically, this microwave is a regression from 2004 to 1994.
Panasonic seems just about finished as a company. They are no longer competitive and are just riding on the reputation of their brand name built on former products. That will not continue if they upset brand loyalists by pulling stunts like this.
I will not be buying another Scamasonic anything. Fool me once, bad on me, and all that.
Sold as a new microwave but must have been a returned item or it was a display model. Plastic had been removed from front and not working properly. I need to go back to Best Buy to return microwave.
