I love these little switches... I have about 20 of them in place. The fact that they can be powered from upstream POE Source makes them ideal for remote areas that just need an extra network drop. This allows me to keep the network up with centralized UPS devices. Most of the time I do not need to use the management portion of this switch, but If I need to designate a VLan, I am able to get it done - no issues.
I have three GS108Tv2's and a GS110TP. I absolutely love them. I can't say that I've done anything with the VPN features, but the PoE is SO handy. I've read a few reviews where people had some troubles with these devices but they really sounded like they were trying to get Enterprise class functionality out of a consumer/SOHO device. Which reminds me of the people who thought the home PC (made by a certain manufacturer that I will decline to mention for whom I did technical support) should be capable of professional video editing. Back in the 90s. With free software that came on the machine. I am a big fan of Netgear products and the lifetime warranty is just a giant demonstration of their belief in the quality of their products.
love this switch! i power it using a PoE switch which makes it very convinient! would like to see private vlan support on smaller switches in the future.
